Re: Hyundai Verna 2016 1.6 VTVT(S): The Silver Fox (1600 Kms. First Service Update)

Guys, on 31st DEC while travelling towards ooty via kalhatty ghats, an Silver Hyundai i10 coming in opposite direction charged from middle of road and smashed into my RH-OVRM. He didn't even stop, just went away.

That lucky *******'s number plate didn't get captured in my dashcam nor in masinagudi police station cam. So there was no way of getting a number, so had to cancel my complaint in police station.

Side repeater guard is damaged, mirror fell out but luckily plastic beading protected it.

Here is the recording from my dashcam,

The road is too narrow and I think he started moving towards you for some reason. Be glad it was just the orvm but frustrating for sure.

In case it gets damaged the normal one costs around 3000rs and the electric folding costsi 6500rs.

It costs 3569INR including all charges. I will just put some tape over it and leave it like that for now.

My dashboard reflections were the main reason he didn't get caught.

do you have any idea to eliminate this reflections since summer is coming up.

Guys, what is the oil change interval for verna ?
SA & sales guys says 10K kms or 1 yr. But hyundai manual says every 5K kms. I checked engine oil, it has turned to brownish from golden brown color.

Car has a ODO reading of about 7800 kms and is ~6 months old.

It says to change engine oil and filter for every 5000kms or 6 months for every type of driving condition.

driving conditions
A : Repeated short distance driving
B : Extensive idling
C : Driving in dusty, rough roads
D : Driving in areas using salt or other corrosive materials or in very cold weather
E : Driving in sandy areas
F : More than 50 % driving in heavy city traffic during hot weather above 32°C (90°F)
G : Driving in mountainous areas.
H : Towing a trailer
I : Driving for patrol car, taxi, commercial car or vehicle towing
J : Driving over 170 km/h(106 mile/h)

its 10k km, 5k km is under a different extreme driving scenario, its normal to turn golden brown, mine is 4 months and near 7k km, as long as its not dark brown and thick its fine.

Re: Hyundai Verna 2016 1.6 VTVT(S): The Silver Fox (1600 Kms. First Service Update)

Guys, car has done about ~8600 kms ODO. Mileage dropped to 10km w/o AC in city and in highways 13 W/ AC. Is it normal for car to drop to that low before service period ?

Off-Topic :

Any of you know who is supplier of Hyundai OEM AVN system ? I did costing analysis and found of it's actual cost is around ~28K. Hyundai dealer told me to install Caska HU which costs 40K and has a bad UI. For 40K I could get a Pioneer AVN, but con with pioneer is steering functions may not work.

Without ac my car gives 12-13 kmpl. Confirm after doing another tankful. Traffic jams , bad roads reduce the mileage. I get 10kmpl with ac. Hyundai's would be more expensive than pioneer. There's another accessory which will enable the steering controls with pioneer hu.

Re: Hyundai Verna 2016 1.6 VTVT(S): The Silver Fox (1600 Kms. First Service Update)

I observed MID when using my car with ac in city it was showing as 7.3 kmpl. Got surprised and immediately went to a petrol bunk and fill up my tank. Drove for a 40kms and filled up again, mileage was found to be 7.11 kmpl with ac on in city. I live in Mysore, there is less traffic when compared with Mumbai/Bangalore.

Check 3 times over following week w/o ac in city. Avg FE was 9.89 kmpl [frustration]

During AC on, car will be in Auto CC mode with temp set at 22C. Outside will be around 32C

air filter and ac filter is clean. Shell (80%t) or indian oil (20%t) are the fuel stations i use most of the time.

Re: Hyundai Verna 2016 1.6 VTVT(S): The Silver Fox (1600 Kms. First Service Update)

So, when driving today morning I noticed ticking sound from engine.

Engine noise

So, came to conclusion it may be due to 3 things :
1. Low oil pressure on valve train.
2. Excessive valve lash.
3. Worn or damaged parts.

Since ODO is nearer to service point, it may be due to point 1.

And also just for curiosity, I opened engine oil cap when engine was idling and noticed positive strong gas pulses with burnt smell from the oil hole. Possibly due to blockage or ineffective PCV orifice or EGR valve. Hope it's not due to blow by from piston.
