So, you were in gwalior! I was thinking why you are not updating the thread :stupid:Awaiting trip details. Will there be pics too?
Yes, indeed. I was in Gwalior.

Right, folks! The Gwalior trip!

Apologies
Only one pic, unfortunately, as of now! All pics were on my Android phone memory (and not the MicroSD, Alas!), which I managed to brick while doing some monkey business with a Custom Rom. Lets hope it revives soon!

Journey
Journey was 365km one way, taking me via Agra, Dholpur and Morena. Roads were four laned, divided (2+2) and fabulous all the way till Gwalior (including the roads that I traversed within Agra). The last 30 odd km (terminal phase of Gwalior, after crossing the Gwalior bypass junction) was, however, literally an off-roader! The place where I was to go was on the North eastern part of Gwalior, along the SH to Bhind. The road was under construction (ie expansion). As if the normal small-town-MP traffic chaos was not enough, the loose gravel and extreme dust added to the woes. The Gwalior bypass seemed ready but I could not take it as it was temporarily barricaded the day I reached there. Total time taken to cover this distance of 365km was 5 hours, which gives an average speed of 73 km/h, which is pretty satisfying!! (Of course, this was non-stop except for one bio break taken on the Yamuna eway amounting to about one minute!! No breakfast, chai etc..) Had the bypass been open, I could have shaved off another 30 minutes off this! Managed to take this on the way back and it is beautiful and virtually deserted. The traffic is also not too much on the Agra Gwalior NH.

Car Performance
Stupendous, as expected. No hiccups whatsoever! Overall mileage (including the horrendous last-mile) was about 16.9 km/l on MID, done without AC (This took a dip from 17.9, recorded prior to entering Gwalior!). Ride was smooth on decent roads but the tyre noise was quite obtrusive. Added to this was that I forgot to plug in my pen drive full of songs (Had removed it a day prior when giving the car for first service). So, it was FM to the rescue - but FM coverage was good. First, Delhi, then Mathura, then Agra and then, Gwalior FM! So, all through, something was playing to muffle the tyre noise!

The ride over rough roads was OK. Didn't bottom out as I had expected I would...but then it was because I was the sole occupant of the car with a suitcase in the boot!

Whitelight comes of age

Why, you may ask?
Because two things happened.

1. Got my first scratch (Ugh!!) But, seeing the traffic madness in Gwalior, I think I got away virtually scotfree! Anyway, I am a relieved man now!! I have no idea when it happened. So, I guess it must have happened when the car was parked. There is no scratching of the paint. However, there is a depression of the metal sheet along with a light fold. Still can't figure out what caused it!

2. Scraped the bottom for the first time!
There are only two kinds of Honda City drivers - those who have scraped the bottom and those who are about to!!!
What happened was that on the way back, 30km short of Agra, NH was barricaded by the police and they redirected the traffic through a small non-descript road going to Shamshabad and Fatehabad. My GPS swung into action and calculated an alternate route, which was to take me through the country roads of UP, hobnobbing with farmers on tractors and "Doodhwalas" (Milkmen) on mobikes! Good, simple folks but very poor and narrow roads. Since the traffic coming from Agra was also being diverted the same way, I had to cross many trucks. Truckers are very wary of getting their wheels off road due to the fear of getting stuck and it certainly is a nightmare if a truck gets stuck. So, respecting that, my left wheels were perpetually off the road. And same was the case with right wheels whenever a small slot emerged to overtake a tractor. So, it was pretty rash drive over rough mud tracks. And in all this, when there was no speed to talk off, emerged Mt Speed Breaker!! And there you have it. I was "Bangalored" for the first time, if I may creatively use the term for something other than outsourcing! I am not sure what part of the car touched but I certainly know which part of me was wounded!! However, at the end of it, she emerged quite fine and I am quite reassured that I can do more of such carefree handling with her the next time round!!

Recovery
Got back to Delhi on Friday and now was the time for pampering her. I bought "Armour All" car shampoo and used it for the first time. It did a pretty decent job. First was a plain water wash with a bucket. This was followed by shampooing with the second bucket. The final rinsing was with the third bucket. Drying wipe was with a Micro Fibre cloth. Overall, I think the shampoo worked well to remove loads of dust that was caking the car and the tar marks. But, thanks to the white colour, she wasn't looking shabby at all in the first place!

Problems
I felt mild vibrations on the steering crossing 100kn/h, which reduce beyond 115km/h. Perhaps, I need to get my tyres balanced more accurately.

And finally, the discovery of the ride
I downloaded a software called DailyRoads Voyager, which transforms your android phone into a dash cam. Overlays speed and GPS Lat/Long on the video/ Photos! Very customisable. I have updated the thread on dash cams with the details! Here's the link http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...ashboard-camera-where-delhi-2.html#post230273

Cheers!

Wish list

Very Very soon - Number Plate - I have a Plastic one with numbers on tape. Wife hates it - says it is not befitting the car. Want to upgrade to a standard metal embossed plate (similar to HSRP in terms of looks).
Can someone in Delhi help me with a place where these are available (And, I say again, I am not looking at the official HSRP - just something that looks like it)
Folks, would appreciate a little help here. Can anyone suggest a decent place in Delhi where I can get metallic embossed registration plates (an HSRP lookalike)?

Oh, the dent looks bad. I think a bike silencer would have caused it because there was a similar dent made on my car by a bike-wala.

Anyways, interesting writeup.

Thanks for giving info of the software (Daily roads voyager). I will download it before my next trip.
BTW, I have heard that the new high security number plates will be made compulsary soon. I am not sure though.
So, I think there's no need to get embossed plates.

Those Bike Wallahs! Grrrr![evil]
But then, I also become a bike wallah quite frequently!! (though I have never touched any car or even a rear view mirror with my bike...my bike is too precious for that!!) So, I guess such things can't be avoided and its all in the game of owning and riding cars in India! Look at the positive. I am glad, for it could have been worse!

Well, they already are compulsory in Haryana. Gurgaon has implemented it but it is yet to be implemented in Faridabad. They are yet to identify the authorised fitter etc. (I think the firm is Utsav only). Actually, I am only doing this because it looks good. And, of course, they are more durable than plastic/acrylic ones with stickered numbers. Oh yes! I found a guy on ebay.in who supplies these. Am ordering them and will get them soon.

Nice review man I was also going for Vmt in silver but the waiting period was a turn off
Thanks, TheFerrariFan. I went ahead with VMT only because I could stretch my budget till there. Otherwise, SMT ticked all my boxes perfectly. Frankly, its only cruise control that may be difficult to retrofit on a SMT otherwise, everything else can be retrofitted. But, frankly, though cruise control is a great thing to have (as I realised it during the Yamuna Eway ride), its absence is not a deal breaker. And, presently, there are very few roads in India where CC can be employed effectively. If Honda had given the other CC in VMT (ie Climate Control), I am sure there would have been many more takers! Sometimes, I wonder how Honda has consistently misread the Indian buyer! (Pricing of Jazz, no diesel, No CC in City etc etc...) They need to learn from Maruti, who have the pulse of the Indian buyer and his psyche well measured up!! The "Kitna Deti Hai" ad series bears testimony to that fact![clap] No wonder they manage to launch one runaway hit after the other!

Absolutely agree bro. honda needs to its marketing strategies. What I love about the city is the fun to drive factor but the salesperson gave me an opposite impression. They need to understand their customer.

So, what did you get? Smt?

@FBW : Even I was a bike walla some time back. To be true, I have banged numerous cars! But, yes, It just happens, we don't do anything intensionally!

BTW, My friend said that we will have to go to a court with RC of our vehicle and they will give the no. plates.
Help.

Paintwork problem

Folks, would appreciate a little help here. Can anyone suggest a decent place in Delhi where I can get metallic embossed registration plates (an HSRP lookalike)?
Managed to get HSRP lookalike plates from ebay. The fit and finish is very good. Obviously, there are no "High Security" features, its just a lookalike.[:D]

But, more importantly, a new problem. I wash my car every other day with water and use car shampoo (presently using ArmourAll) once a week or two. Today, when I was washing my car, I noticed a darkish streak on a small portion on the left side. It seems to have been caused by a a cloth, as if some grease has been rubbed in. Looking back, I think I am the culprit since the sponge that I had used to apply Carnuba wax to my car was not really clean (it was quite dark but I persisted on regardless). So, probably, I may have rubbed in that black stuff in the car paintwork along with with the polish (if such a thing is possible).[frustration]
Now, the problem is that even with the car wash, it is not going away. It is not very obvious but one can spot it if you look carefully. I know a photograph will clearly bring out what I am saying here but I dont have a camera handy right now. There does not seem to be any damage to the paint surface, it is absolutely smooth and has no oil residue etc. It is, as they say, squikily clean! Any ideas how I can make these blemishes vanish, anyone?

Are you sure that the mark is made by the dirty cloth you used?
It maybe from rubbery parts of bikes/vehicles also.
Do post a pic so that I can figure out what it is.

I think I am fairly sure it was made by my dirty cloth and my stupidity! [frustration]
It is unlikely to have been done by a bike handle/ other rubber parts for it is about 3 to 4 inches in diameter and it is fairly high on the C Pillar. Anyway, I will post the pics soon so that you guys can have a look and advice the best course of action. Thanks.

3-4 inch in diameter! That would be a real eyesore, I bet.
Did you try any polish, etc?

BTW, I used 'Scratch out' on my swift when an Indica scraped me from the side leaving tyre marks there (black). The work was damn easy and the results were good. But, don' expect it to remove large scratches. A small bottle costs Rs.150.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I am out of station. That's why I haven't posted the pics either. Well the mark is pretty big but not really an eyesore because it is not very clearly visible; only from certain angles can it be seen. Scratch out may not help because there is no scratch but nevertheless I have bought a bottle of it. Will give it a try once I get back and will let you know. Thanks for the advice!

Hi FlyByWire, once you apply Scratchout, follow that up by a quick wax. In my case i observed that most of the minor scratches and swirl marks disappeared through this method. Previously i had applied only Scratchout and the scratch did appear after a few hours. Hope this helps
