Once again I'll be honest and admit that, having spent over 45 years wallowing in automobilia (the latter 10 years with Mitsui's car carrier fleet), I'm a little cagey when I hear terms like enthusiasts & non-enthusiasts, specially in the Indian context. I've often come across 'enthusiasts' who have no idea what a torsen differential is or how an MLD works! The one thing I find we all agree on is the paramount importance of FE, "kitna deti hai?" Which, of course, is as it should be - after all, in a country where fuel prices seem to have little to do with crude prices, belt-tightening is the only option left[:)]!
I agree that longevity is a concern for Traditional Automatics, but we must not forget that TC Automatocs has been in existance for nearly 20 years in market across the world and it has been refined throughout its existance to be reliable enough, for the record some TC ATs have outlived th engines as well.
So I dont think TC AT is in no way inferior to an AMT when it comes to longevity,

The issue I find with AMT is driving experience, sure its no breaker for major of Indians who mightnot even dare to try driving a regular Torque Converter Automatic, even I know a few people who dont know whats difference between a Torque converter amd how it drives to a regular AT, I recently had one Dzire AMT owner drive a Brio AT, thre Dzire owner was keeping on grabbing hand brakes as he is used to this weird hand brake stop driving of AMT, once he got used to thr Brios smooth 5 speex TC AT, he itself admited that the Dzire is far less intuitive and enguaging to drive and offers less control as well while taking inclines etc, see the point is quality vs Quantity, AMT is Quantity based AT while TC,DSG, are quality based, it purely depends on what one desires, but after driving DSGs,TC ATs, a few CVTs I cannot accept AMT as a good Automatic transmission, it sure takes a lot of stress out of gears and their manual work, but never felt like a proper solution, more like a temporary setup, I am sure AMT will improve with time and might become as smooth and jerk free and roll back free like regular Autos but till then, I am not one who would choose an AMT over a TC AT if TC ATs are available within say a 50,000 -75000 Rs premium over AMT.

You are quite right, TC automatics have been around for a long time. The first successful mass-produced offering (1940) was the GM Hydra-Matic, offered on most top-of-the-line GM models (Cadillac, Buick etc) and it even found its way across the Atlantic into a Rolls-Royce! Of course it was durable, but it also needed a lot of TLC - Tender Loving Care! - and a host of do's & dont's to be added to one's normal driving habits!

The following link gives an insight into the working of the Torque Converter - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXgSttKLsHs

In fact the TC has been hybridized and used in the Suri Transmission for Diesel Locomotives by the Indian Railways!

NEW DELHI, India, May 14, 2018 – In its commitment to bring products, technologies and features that Indian customers want and value, Ford India today announced the expansion of EcoSport model lineup with a new top-of-the-line EcoSport S and Signature Edition.

Donning trendier and sportier cues, both the new variants will come equipped with power slide sunroof, rechristened as fun roof. Strengthening its petrol & fun-to-drive credentials, EcoSport S has been paired with Ford’s award-winning 1.0L EcoBoost engine to woo driving enthusiasts.

In line with our Feels like Family Promise, we are committed to meeting diverse needs of our customers and act on their feedback. The addition of Sunroof, a feature that customers have been demanding, and world-renowned EcoBoost engine technology, is an example of our commitment,” said Anurag Mehrotra, president and managing director at Ford India. “Driven by customer feedback, the two new editions make our compact SUV even more stylish, trendier and fun-to-drive.”

Spirited EcoSport S

The newly introduced top-of-the-line, EcoSport S variant, is replete with smart exterior changes that enhance the compact SUV’s imposing stance. It introduces all-new smoked HID headlamps with dark inserts and a more prominent black treatment to the fog lamp bezel.

The dark theme has been carried all through the exterior design with a blacked out grille, black painted roof & roof rails and 17-inch smoke alloys for a more noticeable road presence.

The interiors of the EcoSport S feature orange accents on the seats as well as instrument panel to break the monotony and add to the cabin’s premium appeal.

For enhanced driver convenience, EcoSport S introduces a new, bigger 4.2-inch digital information cluster along with the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

Strengthening the petrol line-up, the EcoSport S will be paired to Ford’s globally renowned 1.0L EcoBoost engine, delivering class-leading 125 PS of peak power and 170 Nm of torque to further enhance the compact SUV’s fun-to-drive credentials.

Not just fun-to-drive, EcoBoost will stay true to its promise of being extremely efficient, offering a fuel economy of 18.1 Km/L and 12% lower CO2 emissions than conventional four-cylinder engines. It will be mated to an all-new six-speed manual transmission that offers slicker, more precise gear shifts to aid quick manoeuvres and overtakes.

The EcoBoost engine has been recognized as a performance leader world over and has won International Engine of the Year Award consecutively for six years in a row.

EcoSport S with Sun-roof is also offered with Ford’s trusted 1.5L TDCi diesel motor that delivers best-in-class 100 PS peak power and an outstanding fuel economy of 23 Km/L.

This new variant will offer Ford’s best-in-class in-car connectivity system SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen. It will also continue to maintain Ford’s lead in safety with six airbags for all-around protection of occupants.

Signature Edition

The fun associated with Sunroof will not just be limited to EcoSport S but also on the new Signature Edition. Strengthening the petrol offering, EcoSport Signature Edition will come paired to the 1.5L three-cylinder TiVCT petrol engine that delivers 123 PS of power and a fuel efficiency of 17 Km/L along with the trusted 1.5L TDCi diesel engine.

An amalgamation of style and substance, the EcoSport Signature Edition will offer Ford compact SUV’s renowned performance credentials, with subtle design enhancements in perfect harmony.

Signature Edition’s exteriors feature a series of changes to enhance the EcoSport’s visual appeal. It features a more imposing grille with chrome surround and Diamond cut 17” alloys, black fog-lamp bezel along with all round graphics, rear spoiler and roof rails.

Signature Edition further enhances the value for money proposition of the EcoSport with the introduction of sunroof and a host of exterior & interior changes that customers have been looking for,” Mehrotra added.

Its interiors will have subtle use of blue accents on seat stitching, centre console and instrument panel to add to its overall appeal. Customers can opt to buy the EcoSport Signature Edition as an option pack on the car’s Titanium variant.

Comprehensively redesigned, the All-New Ford EcoSport has won critics and customers alike since its launch, continuing to be the most awarded Compact SUV in India. Some of the key features that continue to appeal to customers and continue being on-offer in the lineup include:

· Technology – including SYNC 3 with a high-resolution 8-inch floating touchscreen and Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™ compatibility

· Greater convenience with an all-new six-speed Automatic Transmission, segment-first paddle shifters, cruise control and hill launch assist

· Standard dual front airbags and ABS; only compact SUV to offer up to six airbags for all-around protection

So whats does one pay for the S variants over the Signature variants,

In Petrol Ecoboost with 6 speed Gearbox and a Better MID, side and curtain airbags, why does the Diesel S Variant cost INR 1 Lakh more than the Signature variant- does it come with a 6 speed gearbox.

For reducing the size of photos, transfer to laptop or computer, and easily reduce the size upto 50/60% or as per size, make sure they are below 1mb, before uploading to the site.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, was busy...will do that later, prob in 1 to 2 days.

By the way I am back. Lots happened in last 2 months. I am very busy this week but Ill give my brief history of my 2 months driving of my blue Titanium plus AT petrol.

I went on a holiday spree with my family in my new Ecosport. At present its showing me around 2600 kms driven. We were five including 2 grownup kids. Frankly speaking the rear is made only for 4 persons. Even a single kid will cramp the place like anything. So folks, this is very much true. The Ecosport is for 4 persons only and not five. For a little comfort, I use to keep a pillow inbetween the rear seats so that the person in the middle use to place his back a little front and that way comfort was somewhat better. But strictly its for 4.

I travelled to Mahabaleshwar, Shiroda and Goa. I got an average 9 kms per litre including airconditioned kept on 3 and sometimes 4. All of 2000 kms plus journey I kep my ac on. The driving is very comfortable. Now please note, while returning from Goa, we were five and plus heavy luggage at the back. The Ford could not move when brakes are released, one has to press the acceelator to start moving. When it is luggage free, once the brakes are released the car starts moving.

Once I was home, I was returning from Dmart with my family when suddenly I noticed that I need to wear my seatbelts else the police chowki in front will butter me 100 rupees. I took my car slow on a emply street and was adjusting my seat belt when suddenly the big kachra truck came from behind and crash my side. The side was completely broken. Both were at fault. There was no case and police let me and the truck driver go free. I immediately contacted my SC Ford Malad agent. Now the best part was that they sent a driver since my car engine was intact and it was still drivable. He took the car, got it repaired, made almost brand new and in 20 days time it was driven to my residence. I was having zero depreciation insurance so no charges were paid. All free except GST.

And one more thing, the service person of Ford, Kandivali knows me well. He said that 9 kms is during the first run. Once the car runs 3500 - 5000 kms, it will loosen up a bit and average will be around 12 kms per litre and even 15 kms if driven at proper speed. I doubt it, but atleast 11-12 kms with Ac will be a good value.

More details later. Any comments most welcome.

Well sad to hear about the crash even before she broke in properly, but good to see the inmates are safe and it has been repaired back close to original.
Regarding power with full occupants , of course it wont move with more than 3 on board, already Ecosport is heavy at 1310 kg for automatic and add another 300 kg gross for 5 people its a whopping 1610 kg, a considerable amount for 150 NM to push.
Mileage will only improve with time, in my Figo 2010 petrol first 10,000 kms mileage used to be between 10-10.5 kmpl overall, after first proper service it got better and started seeing 11-11.5 average, now it has almost stabilized at 11.5-12.5 kmpl city and 15-17 kmpl highway.
So yes mileage will vary a lot beforr first proper service at 10,000 kms or one year.

If some has posting rights on Team-bhp , please tell poster Rambo1o1 that in my October 2014 Ecoboost Ecosport, there was coolant leakage in March 2017, they replaced the water pump and oil seals, car was under warranty so I did not pay for it, but the bill estimate was around 20K. Car has been running fine since then.

Took a longish TD of around 100kms of a ES Titanium 1.5 Petrol yesterday.
I am planning for my next Car and am currently zeroed in on the Ecosport. The dealer in my town(Dibrugarh) is a sub-dealer of TI Ford in another town(Tinsukia) around 50kms from my place. Wanted to check out the 1.5P AT so they brought their TD vehicle which I drove to and fro.
Features and looks were already discussed so I will skip that.
Drivability of the car was very good with nice steering feedback and handling. I won't call the ride quality plush as the Duster betters in this department by huge leaps. Even the S-Cross which I TDed was better on broken tarmac. Not that the ES handles bad on broken roads and potholes, but the stiffer suspension makes you feel the road more than the rivals. The car feels very planted on good roads though. There is no pitching, no rolling during high speeds on good roads which can be again attributed to the suspension. Overall the car is good to drive true to all fords.
Checked out the AT which was a display vehicle, didn't drove her though. The paddle shifters felt flimsy which in the first place made me to check out the vehicle. Along with the all black interiors, the inside of the car did not appeal to me. So I checked out a S version of the ES at their stock yard which was a Ecoboost one and ready for delivery to another customer. I loved the orange inserts on the dashboard, seats, steering and doors which breaks the black monotone and comes with satin finish. The inner door handles are black in colour and same as in the base Ambiente version. The Trend gets silver handles and all others get chrome ones. The S version comes with all the bells and whistles and felt more refined compared to the 1.5 petrol upon start up. NVH levels of the ES is very good. The S version comes with HID lamps and an electric Sunroof. The wheels have beautiful alloys shod with a rather low profile 205/50 R17 rubbers which means a stiffer ride.
The S comes with a different MID. Though black and white, is leagues ahead of the dot matrix types available in other versions. Comes with a black roof too.

Mostly its Projector headlamps, alloy wheels, sunglass holder and 60:40 folding seats. The cost diff is 50k or so (OTR).

If you goto Ford Indian's site, you can download the brochure. It has all the features mentioned for all varients.
