I can only guess Jayadev you arent aware of Gurkha offroad prowess ?(Plenty of Youtube videos though)

For me its a benchmark nearly for affordable offroading( and reasonable practical daily drive which the Thar is not).

Even hard core offroaders (MM,CJB, Gypsy guys) respect the Gurkha [:)]

But with a soft top though unless you go through custom building. Also Thar ride quality for normal roads isnt that great so is the seating, whereas the Gurkha is respectable on roads as well. I am not saying Thar is better or worse than the Gurkha offroad, but for me the Gurkha is more practical to own than a Thar.

Apart from replacing the stock tyres in Gurkha there is nearly nothing needed for it to offroad and that too some serious offroad.

OT but right now he is busy at Tata though (not M&M ) and i just hope he releases a LX 4x4 Storme(cut price no frills but with 4x4) - it is beyond me why a Real SUV cannot have 4x4 as a option across all versions! If i want a 4x4 Storme its 16 L on road and If I am in to offroading why would i look for something which costs 16L.

+1 & after spending 16L, you won't take it for off-roading in anycase. [lol]

I was referring specifically for the offroading part of a buyer's requirement, there are also people who buy a ferrari in mumbai while they have to carry it in trucks to the expressway for being able to drive as they cant venture outside their homes without hitting a speed breaker. Also with the Fortuner its 4x4 mode full time on tarmac as well, with the Safari you cant do that.

To summarise if you are purchasing for offroading then your mindset becomes a certain way as i mentioned above , else for image purpose the brawnier the better [:)], its all about what you can afford then!

If gurkha is Suv then why is Tata sumo not? Experts..
Hehe, buddy can you please for once explain what this 'SUV' thing really is? The answer is in this question itself.

I can only guess Jayadev you arent aware of Gurkha offroad prowess ?(Plenty of Youtube videos though)

As I have already said 'a fanboy in making'!![lol]

About CJB or GYPSY ones I don't know but one XUV owner does it for sure.[clap]

@IR: Why don't you check the new Thar, now with AC by default its a capable yet practical 4x4? What say?
Buddy, as much I remember, both Thar and Gypsy are missing the limited slip or lockable/locked differentials, but Gurkha has. Rest IR can explain the differences even more deeply..you know he is attached to Gurkha and need one for his serious weekly offroading(on expressway and some farms[;)]).

ALL NEW FORCE GURKHA 4X4 SUV TO BE LAUNCHED IN INDIA DURING 2013

2013, it seems will finally bring some much needed competition to the Mahindra Thar on-off roading SUV. The Thar, which comes with woeful fit and finish levels for the kind of price it is sold at can definitely do with some competition. Competition will come in 2013, when Force Motors launches the all new Gurkha 4X4 SUV. Force Motors has been testing the Gurkha 4X4 quite extensively and the SUV will finally be relaunched in India after being taken off the market nearly three years ago. The all new Gurkha gets new styling and interiors, while the engine too could be a more powerful version turbo diesel motor.
