FIAT Grande Punto v/s Hyundai i20

So there is quite a lot of time now. You'll get couple of more options in the list like Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo. Toyota Etios Hatch makes another worth waiting option but its launch is expected by Year-Mid only.

Well, I started this thread on 16th Dec 2009. As of July 2010, I have totally changed my mind from Petrol to Diesel But I am consistent with my car models. Now its gonna be:

1. FIAT Grande Punto 1.3 Emotion Pack
2. Hyundai i20 ASTA 1.4 CRDi

The reasons for my change from Petrol to Diesel has nothing to do with recent petrol price hike. Instead the decion is mode more on practical reasons. I current project is wrapping up on 30 Sep 2010, which confirms that I will be coming back on 1st Oct 2010. I will be located either in Bangalore or Cochin. Which ever place, I need a car which will be used to daily commute and once in 2 months to my home town Calicut. So, I think diesel will be a more sensible decision. Though I love Grande Punto, I am (more than me, my wife) completely obsessed with i20 . If you guys have any experience with i20 diesel, it will be great to hear! I never owned any new generation diesel cars before (Other than the M&M CJ500 and HM Amby long time back). So, I am sort of newbie here. I know, I have 2 more months to go, during which a lot can happen in Indian automobile scene. Still its worth to do the homework, is it not !?

I would say, since your's and your wife's are obsessed with i20, buy that only.
One should follow his/her heart, that will give you maximum satisfaction. i20 is a fantastic car.

i20 Diesel has superbly brilliant 6-speed gearbox.
Beats the hell out of Punto.
I say buy the i20 diesel just because of the gearbox.

By the time you come back, Punto 90HP will be already launched and it will be most power full car in its segment, therefore take your time and decide accordingly.

Out of the two i would pick i20 Asta anyday! The 1.4L CRDI is a rocket.

Hey, great catch RSM! You helped me to solve one of the mystery! I am happy that I have picked Punto in my mind!

Shynish, don't finalize anything now. Punto 90 HP and i20 CRDi is very close with different parameters.
My thumb rule, if more highway drive, take Punto. More city drive, i20 should be choice.
