Planned Itinerary:

Day-1 : Early morning start from Delhi, will take first break for breakfast at Murthal and second break for lunch at Jalandhar Haveli.
Will try to reach Amritsar between 2-3PM and then visit golden temple in the evening

Day-2: Local shopping in morning and after lunch will visit Wagah border

Day-3: Early morning visit to Golden temple and will start for Delhi by afternoon

How are the roads from Delhi to Amritsar ? DO we have long stretches of smooth road ???

Thanks diehardi20, road are full of diversions due to end number of flyover construction work going on between Panipat-Jalandhar, but still suggest you to stick with NH-1, i started at 6:30 from Delhi and managed to reach Amritsar by 4:00PM

Major part of roads are like above, but it is painstaking to cross the few diversion sections

My trip update: extended the trip by one more day

Today once again visited golden temple, reached there at 4:00AM to have easy darshan also managed to saw Palki, spent more than 2 hrs at temple extremely wonderful experience. Planned to visit local market for shopping by 12:00 noon will start for Delhi by tomorrow afternoon. Till then enjoy the couple of pics below:

So here goes my log of Delhi-Amritsar-Delhi road trip:

Day-1

Route taken: Delhi-Sonepat-Panipat-Karnal-Ambala-Ludhiana-Jalandhar-Amritsar
Destination: Hotel HongkongInn Amritsar
Total KM: 494KM
Number of Halts: 2
Start time: 06:30 AM
End Time: 4:00 PM
Total Hrs: 9:30 Hrs
Total halt time: 1:15 Hrs
Total diesel: INR 1600 from Delhi and Haryana

We started towards Amritsar at 6:30AM; roads are mostly empty so we reached Murthal in no time our first stop, we were at Sukhdev dhaba by 7:35AM, had aaloo pyaaz paratha and tea soon we started our journey again. As we entered on Panipat flyover speed radar caught us, i was driving around 100kmph mark and limit was 90kmph though i was warned by few BCMTians about their regular presence over these roads, but i can't help myself roads are so well laid not able to resist myself, soon I paid INR 150 to traffic police guy and started again.

Road and endless flyover construction work was in full swing from Panipat to Jalandhar section, most part of stretch was full of diversions with narrow roads but we managed to cross them all and reached Jalandhar by lunch time, had food at Haveli Jalandhar, both restaurant and thali was amazing, awesome experience.

After 45 minute break we started again and managed to reach our hotel by 4:00PM, which was located some 2KM away from golden temple, we visited golden temple in evening and had dinner in guru ka langar, due to heavy rush and long queue we missed the darbar sahib darshan this evening.

Well its surprising in India we get such free entertainment.

I feel Pity for the man doing stunts, without proper Safety gears.

And yet such act continues.

After spending around an hour here we visited golden temple located walking distance from Jallianwala bagh, find below the pics:

From our hotel they charged INR 50-60 for golden temple, they are easily available in Amritsar



Auto will drop you here, you can take cycle rickshaw from here or simply walk like us
