Cost of Smoking the Headlamps?

How are lights "smoked" by the way ? I have seen a couple of vehicles with their headlamps "smoked" and they look ... Maybe a bad job done....
Natural smoked lights come on some foreign cars... I've seen some on some websites.

This website has wallpapers/car photos of all popular/good car brands and almost all of their famous models. I've seen some good smoked lights there. And, also on a Hella website, I think they make smoked light reflectors for Headlight unit as well as for the rear unit.

Smoking brake lights

Hi TAI Friends,

I own a MARUTI 800 and I am planning to smoke the brake lights.I think it is a very big process.I would like to get your help on that.Also I had an idea of putting a sun control film over it so it would look smoke. any comments on that.

It wont affect the visibility if you smoke those taillights .
