Citroen-Basalt-revealed-.jpg

The French automotive giant Citroen has finally unveiled its highly anticipated coupe SUV, Basalt, in India. This new SUV will boast a unique sloping roofline, which gives it a coupe-like appearance. This new and unique global Citroen model will be produced in India and will go on sale in the second half of this year.

Citroen Basalt: Front design
Starting off with the front of the Citroen Basalt, it gets a similar front fascia as its other siblings, including the C3 hatchback and C3 Aircross compact SUV. This includes the signature split headlamp design and V-shaped LED DRLs. It also gets C3 Aircross-styled front grille and bumper with a few minor tweaks.

Side profile
On the side profile, the new Citroen Basalt gets the same flap-style door handles and smooth body lines. It will come equipped with bigger multispoke alloy wheels. The front and rear fenders get prominent claddings, which have been given a squared-off appearance.

Rear end
Coming to the rear end design of the Citroen Basalt, it will come equipped with a coupe-like sloping roofline. It will also get wraparound LED taillights and a pronounced decklid. The rear bumper has also been given a sporty appearance with silver claddings and contrasting gloss black design elements. Cars

Citroen Basalt: Interior design
As of yet, the company has not revealed the interior design of the Basalt Coupe SUV. However, most likely it will boast a similar layout as the C3 Aircross. It is, however, believed that the company with the new model could be offering it more premium features.

The Citroen Basalt could come equipped with features such as automatic climate control and ventilated seats. It could also be offered with cruise control, keyless entry, and push-button start. However, the exact list of features has not been revealed by the brand. Also Read: Billionaire Gautam Adani Seen In Toyota Fortuner SUV [Video]

Citroen Basalt: Powertrain

As for the powertrain, the Citroen Basalt will come equipped with the same 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This is the same engine that powers the Citroen C3 Aircross.

It generates a maximum power of 110 Ps and 205 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with both a manual as well as torque converter automatic transmission. The company has stated that it will also be offering an electric version of the Basalt as well. The electric version will go on sale six months after the launch of the ICE Basalt around February of 2025.

Pricing and Competition
At the moment, the company has not revealed the pricing of the Citroen Basalt. However, most likely it will be priced in the range of Rs 15-20 lakh. Meanwhile, in terms of competition, it will compete with the Tata Curvv coupe SUV in India.

The official unveiling of the Citroen Basalt coupe SUV has been set to take place on 2nd August 2024. Based on the C3 Aircross, the Basalt will boast a unique coupe SUV design. Once launched, this SUV will be competing with the Tata Curvv Coupe SUV, which is also scheduled to debut on July 19.

Citroen Basalt interior teased ahead of August debut

Untitled-design-2024-07-22T110351.623-2024-07-7e2f641c929c8861e8ec2404ec7ae0a5-900x506.png

Citroen India has now teased the interior of the Basalt and there are a couple of upgrades that the Coupe SUV does get over the C3 Aircross.

The infotainment screen on the Basalt will be similar to the automaker's C3 Aircross. It looks to be the same 10.2-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Additionally, it is anticipated to include Citroen's connected car capabilities, which are tied to the automaker's My Citroen App. The instrument cluster seems to have similar graphics as well.

The air conditioning control buttons are something that appears to be different. These knobs are situated on the dashboard beneath the air conditioning vents. The SUV will offer side support for the headrests and armrests for front and back seat occupants, among other interior features. There are cupholders and a phone holder on the rear armrest.

The Basalt will have the classic Citroen face with the two-slat grille that builds up to the Citroen emblem, as shown in the concept images and other spy shots. Its larger, chunkier bumper and squared-off wheel arches make the SUV more rugged. Being a coupe, the roofline slopes down and the wrap-around LED tail lamps and chunky silver skid plate at the bottom make the SUV look quite upmarket.

Citroen has not disclosed detailed powertrain specifications for the Basalt but is anticipated to feature a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with options for a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. This motor is good enough for 110PS and up to 205Nm.

The Basalt will directly take on the Tata Curvv that is going to be launched soon as well and we expect the Citroen to be priced from Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). Since the Curvv will be offered in ICE and EV form, it would be interesting to see if we do get an electric Basalt.

Production Citroen Basalt exterior previewed ahead of August launch

citroen_basalt_revealed_in_production_form_ahead_of_august_launch_carandbike_1_c42868f1a7.jpg

Citroen India has revealed first pictures of the production-spec Citroen Basalt coupe-SUV ahead of its launch next month. The Basalt was previewed as a close-to-production concept in March this year, and it comes as no surprise the production model remains largely unchanged. The Basalt will enter India’s fiercely competitive compact SUV market, but its arrival is timed to coincide with that of the Tata Curvv, which will be launched on August 7.

citroen_basalt_revealed_in_production_form_ahead_of_august_launch_carandbike_3_f8be0a6b0a.jpg

For now, Citroen has only revealed pictures of the Basalt’s profile and tail section, and the design and styling are almost exactly the same as seen on the concept. The only visible difference is the production model rides on smaller alloy wheels than the concept shod in different tyres, which aren’t as chunky as those on the concept. Another subtle change is with the body cladding – glossy on the concept, the cladding for the production model bears a matte finish. The face of the production Basalt remains hidden for now, so it is unclear how different it is compared to the concept’s.

citroen_basalt_revealed_in_production_form_ahead_of_august_launch_carandbike_2_a1b24c2ca7.jpg

Visibly related to the C3 Aircross with which it also shares its underpinnings, the Basalt has a sloping roofline that flows into a high deck lid with an inbuilt spoiler lip. The tail-lights, styled to look like LED units, actually feature conventional light bulbs. Interestingly, the Basalt appears to miss out on a panoramic sunroof, something that will be offered with the Curvv.

The interior of the production Basalt is also under wraps for now, but is expected to borrow elements from the C3 Aircross. However, Citroen could add a few more features to enhance the in-cabin experience. The company says it has also paid close attention to enhancing headroom for rear seat passengers, despite the sloping roofline.

We expect the production Basalt to employ the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine found in the C3 Aircross, paired with either a manual or automatic gearbox.

Citroen Basalt top variant interiors detailed

Citroen Basalt Top Variant – new features

Ahead of its debut, a number of features of the Basalt coupe SUV have been revealed. As Basalt will be positioned above the C3 Aircross, there will be some additions to the equipment list. The latest teaser reveals the rear power window buttons installed on the door controls. This makes it more accessible for the driver.

citroen-basalt-top-variant-inteirors-1-1068x601.jpg

Another useful change for Basalt in comparison to C3 Aircross is the floor mounted rear AC vents. These are located behind the front centre console. In comparison, the C3 Aircross does not get any rear AC vents. The 7-seater C3 Aircross has rear AC vents, but these are roof mounted units. The floor mounted rear AC vents on the Basalt are more practical and functionally relevant.

citroen-basalt-top-variant-inteirors-14-1068x601.jpg

With floor mounted rear AC vents, Citroen may also be keeping its options open for a sunroof. Although Basalt won’t have a sunroof at the time of launch, future possibilities cannot be ignored completely.

citroen-basalt-top-variant-inteirors-13-1068x601.jpg

Another convenience feature with Citroen Basalt Top Variant is electrically adjustable and retractable ORVMs. On the C3 Aircross, the ORVMs have to be operated manually. The latest teaser also reveals a conventional keyhole located below the flat-style door handles. It indicates that keyless entry function will not be available with Basalt SUV.

citroen-basalt-top-variant-inteirors-11.jpg

In earlier teasers released by Citroen, Basalt SUV was seen with features such as auto climate control with toggle switches, front armrest with storage and contoured rear headrests.

While Basalt has a sporty profile that can attract customers, the single petrol engine option can limit its overall reach. This is especially true for the compact SUV segment, where customers can choose from petrol, diesel, hybrid, CNG and electric powertrain options. Basalt will use the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that generates 110 hp and 205 Nm. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Torque output is lower at 190 Nm with the manual gearbox.

Citroen Basalt revealed in India

66acf4489c21f.jpg

The fifth product from Citroen in India will be the Basalt SUV-coupe. While a few teasers of the Citroen Basalt had already been released and the exterior was revealed earlier, the carmaker has now revealed the SUV-coupe in its production-ready version. Citroen is gearing up to launch the Basalt sometime in August, and is set to open bookings for it soon.

Citroen Basalt Exterior
It is an SUV-coupe offering that has design similarities with C3 Aircross compact SUV. Up front, you can notice the V-shaped split LED DRLs and a split grille, which is identical to what’s present on the C3 Aircross. The bumper design has been tweaked to give the Basalt its own unique look.

66acf5da81be8.jpg

In profile, it flaunts a coupe roofline and dual-tone finish alloy wheels, which are different from the blacked-out wheels seen on the concept model. At the rear, it gets wraparound LED tail lights and a blacked-out bumper and a silver skid plate.

66acf5722462e.jpg

Its cabin has similarities with that of the C3 Aircross, thanks to the identical dashboard layout, which is inclusive of the dual digital displays and the same design for the AC vents. Citroen has provided it with white leatherette upholstery. One unique trait of the Basalt is that its rear seat base moves by 87 mm to provide better underthigh support.

The Basalt gets the same 10.2-inch touchscreen and 7-inch digital driver’s display as the C3 Aircross. It also gets automatic climate control and wireless phone charging. Its safety kit comprises six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Citroen Basalt Engine And Transmission
Citroen will offer it with 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engines, specifications of which are mentioned in the following table:

The Citroen Basalt is expected to have a starting price of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a direct rival to the Tata Curvv, while also being a stylish alternative to the Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun, Citroen C3 Aircross, and Skoda Kushaq.
