Re: Chevy Beat Diesel By July 2011

Chevrolet wants India to "Drive Khulke". 3 Years / 1 Lakhs Kms warranty + Chevrolet Promise - if cost of ownership exceeds to a specified limit - GM will return the money. Chevrolet has not de-specced the car (in comparo to Petrol) unlike which usually car makers do.

Yesterday, I was watching some car show and they also confirmed about the 24kms mileage. 24 kmpl is too much I guess or my mind is not allowing me to believe it !

Price seems okay to me , the only grouse is that it only has a 1L engine , if it had a 1.3L traditional engine then it would have been awesome. Nice to hear they have not de-specced the diesel variant but ABS and airbags only in the Optional variant is a little disappointing for me , they could have provided those in the LT model itself.

And now coming to mileage , they mileage which they have certified are in testing conditions so don't expect 24kmpl inside city conditions. I would say 15kmpl inside city and maybe around 22kmpl in highways would be the ideal figure.

Re: Chevy Beat Diesel By July 2011

Also a sad part is that Chevy has removed one pot from the tried and tested 1.3 mjd to bring it down to 3-pot 1ltr. Car is just good for city role, if engine is considered. Now that you have mentioned the prices, it seems like a lost cause.

Ohh is it the same multijet from fiat converted to 1 ltr ,saleslady didn’t mention that .
Anyway you can’t expect much technical details from sales girls.

Spot on pricing i would say. Chevy has played its cards well. By this pricing, buyers of Wagon Rs, i10s, Figos would definitely give a second thought.

And coming to mileage, + 1 to cooldhaya it might be @ 15-17 kmpl in city and 20-22 on highway. Being a diesel at heart, it still acts as a superb saver on your pocket [thumbswink]

Great work Vibhor. I am confident that Chevy has a market leader in their hands. Considering the pricing of the car and petrol rates in general would definately work wonders for BEAT.

Thanks Shailinder. I can also sense something good happening for the Chevrolet Beat in nearing future. The competitive pricing, features, refreshing design altogether possibly can turn the tables. One of the primary reasons why Beat could not perform as well as the competitors is the Figo. Now that both the cars are one on one, I’m keenly awaiting for the latest sales figures.

Team, Most of us, must be thrilled by the Beat diesel pricing.
But I am not. I feel the pricing is much higher side. Though it may be cheapest diesel car as of now. But also considered that there few factors which demand lower pricing for beat diesel.

1. Engine has just 3 cylinders.
2. Boot space – 170 liter, lowest in the segment.
3. The BHP is also almost lowest in the segment, 58 BHP only
4. Its totally new technology – it needs to proven.
5. The very poor rear seat comfort

Team,
The Beat diesel price might go up soon. Not good for end customer.
GM is trying to indirectly create early demand for its car. Not sure if this will work in price sensitive Indian market.

The quote from today’s The Telegraph

“New Delhi, July 25: General Motors India is likely to increase the price of the diesel version of Chevrolet Beat after two months to offset the rise in input costs.
At Rs 4.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the entry-level Beat diesel has been priced lower than its rivals to gain initial market share.
The 1.3-litre diesel Maruti Suzuki Swift — the best-selling car in the segment — is priced at Rs 4.99 lakh. Ford Figo’s 1.4-litre diesel version starts at Rs 4.60 lakh, while the 1.3-litre Fiat Punto diesel starts at Rs 5.18 lakh.
Maruti’s another hatchback — the Ritz — has a 1.3-litre diesel model priced at Rs 4.86 lakh onwards.
“We will hold the introductory price on the Beat diesel for the next 60 days, after which factors such as increased commodity pricing may come into play, which we may not be able to mitigate,” said Karl Slym, president and managing director of General Motors India.
GM India expects to sell 4,000-5,000 units of the diesel variant of the Beat per month. The company sells 2,700-3,000 Beats every month, including the petrol and LPG versions.
On the 1-litre diesel engine used in the Beat, Slym said, “This is the smallest diesel engine-powered passenger car for GM globally.” The company may consider launching a diesel Spark having the same engine but with some modifications, Slym added.
GM also plans to export the diesel engine to Europe after meeting the demand in India.”
