Hi, this is very good scheme by Fiat but they should reduce price instead of lucky draws. It can work for short term only.

Fiat has released a new TV Commercial for their upgrade offer (Explained in Post #90). Good enough to grab the much needed public attention.

tata fiat JV may continue!!

“Yes, the Fiat JV is showing losses. Assumptions (made while starting the JV) in terms of volumes didn’t work out, more so for Fiat than for us because there was a downturn and they made an assumption on off-take which did not materialise. Well, as we are 50% owners, we have had to share in losses of the company. Both Fiat and we are having a re-look at the whole contractual undertaking to see whether we can make it more realistic. So, I hope we will be able to resolve that in course of time,” Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Sons, said.

When is Fiat coming out of this ?? I dont understand this attitude of Fiat. How can you expect somebody else to sell and service your product? And that too in this case its your very own competitor in the market !!

The onus has to be taken by Fiat by opening separate outlets and prove to its customers that they are passionate about selling their cars here and not let some one else do it for them. Utmost important - Fiat should make customers feel - "Customers are king" and give them confidence that their needs are catered to. Only then Fiat can think of making a strong come back, else they are bound to fail in India irrespective of their world class cars which is an irony and a huge loss to car seekers [frustration]

Latest news on Tata-Fiat fiasco, finally, oh finally, Fiat India CEO Rajeev Kapoor has come out in open and mentioned that they will move away from Tata shops and set up their own units. Mr. Kapoor has acknowledged that it is not possible to sell both cars under same roof.

Fiat India on Tuesday said it will no longer sell its cars under the same roof as joint venture partner Tata Motors and will set up its own showrooms in around 20 cities across India in the next one-and-a-half years.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association's (ACMA) annual summit , Fiat India President and CEO Rajeev Kapoor said the same dealers that were engaged by the Tata-Fiat joint venture will now open separate showrooms for Tata and Fiat-brand cars.
"Fiat cars will now be sold separately and independently," Mr.Kapoor said.

Yes, they should set up their own service centers too. But at least they have taken this step and should continuously move towards it now. It might be the final make or break for Fiat in India.

Actually JV is intact. And same dealers will continue. Refer to following line from same source (NDTV):

"Fiat India President and CEO Rajeev Kapoor said the same dealers that were engaged by the Tata-Fiat joint venture will now open separate showrooms for Tata and Fiat-brand cars."

Its may be too late. Fiat needs to upgrade Punto & Linea. They are beginning to lose charm. People won't flock to them (particularly Linea) just because they are placed in a new showroom.

Look at Logan. Mahindra placed some chrome here and there and relaunch it as Verito. Effect: sale is gradually picking up.

I wish Fiat would launch refreshed/facelifted version of Punto & Linea and place them in a swanky new showroom. Plus offer customers cappuccino while taking TD :)

Well said :agree: There are nice discounts going on both cars but people are not selecting them.

This is very good step forward for Fiat. The JV should stay intact but Fiat should setup independent showrooms and service centers. It maybe a little too late but better late than never. A mild facelift on both the Punto and the Linea to gain some hype in the market and setup new showrooms should be the first step for Fiat.

I do not see the showroom thing as the prime reason for not selling the Fiat cars. As per my observation, it is about the end product. See people with tight budget are buying Maruti / Hyundai cars whereas with flexible budget are buying premium cars like VW, Skoda etc. Fiat cars are not cheap as Maruti / Hyundai nor premium as VW / Skoda/Honda (For Petrols). They are in between but product quality does not support premium price. Even if they are giving good discounts, still they are unable to sell cars in good numbers (In Aug some 954 Puntos and 113 Lineas were sold).

Their petrol cars are pathetic or not as good as Hondas or any other brand (Personal opinion). Their Diesel engine is a gem and available with different cars in large numbers. So no exclusivity on any front. THEY HAVE TO REVIVE THE BRAND BY CORRECTING PRICES AND REVIVING MODELS.

Else they will be history. Opening up Fiat cafe's would help but how much only time will tell. Their image is in a bad shape so even if they open a cafe in CP (Connaught Place, Delhi) I would not go from my place to see that cafe for the sake of seeing their cafe - period.
