Vipulji one more question- Why didn't you go for the 200NS? It is faster and its a naked bike.
Vipulji!!![confused] Do I look as old as Ambassador?

Why I haven't bought a P200, Yamaha R15 or CBR 150 - Because 'There is no replacement of displacement'. You can go through my thread in which I have written about P200 NS. I like the handling of the motorcycle but not its power delivery.

P200 is ballastic after 6000 rpm mark and anyone can feel the difference while accelerating the motorcycle in say; third gear but I am more in love with the overall responsiveness of the P220. Adding to this is the fact that P220 is overall a comfier motorcycle to be on and it has got 'that' thing which even I don't know.

Taking it this way:
P220 is violent and tough to control, but interesting. While P200 NS does it too well but doesn't feel that much interesting [;)]

That is a nice and thorough review. I am in the market for tourer bike and this review answers my questions with respect to the difference between 220 and 200NS, my verdict to the 220, just like you.
I am owning a first generation / first batch XCD since over 7 years, and hence well aware of Bajaj maintenance. Now I am confused among the Avenger and the 220.

Avenger is the one to go for if you need sheer riding comfort but at an expense of high speed stability and a softer suspension setup. Believe me, you will never be confident at anything above 80 kph on an Avenger while the P220 is a breed apart. Not as good as avenger but is still a reasonable moderate distance touring motorcycle it is which offers you much ease of riding with a sharper handling and hence a better sense of control.

Although we refrain promoting speeding and believe in safe driving under permissible limits, but still, my experience says:

  • I once attained 157 kph while coming down from a looooong flyover
  • 149 kph on near flat surface
  • 147 kph on flat surface and
  • 144 kph on slightly ascending surface.

All are the speedometer display values and were attained with full riding gear and crouched riding.

It was 147 kph on flat surface, now taking minimum 5% and maximu 10% speedo error into consideration, we can expect the speeds to be:
  • 139.65 which nearly equals 140 kph at 5% error and
  • 132.3 which nearly equals to 132 kph at 10% error

So you can easily expect a true top speed with single rider doing crouched riding on a flat surface to be in the vicinity of 135-140 kph.

Yes, the Avenger suits me more as I have a troublesome back. I test drove an Avenger yesterday for a 50 km stretch, at speeds varying between 50-70. Could not go beyond this speed as road conditions were not ideal, but at the end of the drive I did not feel any discomfort, thanks to the seating position. Pulsar sitting position must be in the ballpark of an XCD.

Yeah sorry, didn't know you exist at that time! Well my favourite would be a Ninja 650, with the great riding stance , awesome engine etc etc. It is a great VFM bike.
