Nice to see the Ciaz crossing 5K mark and with the other sales figures of other Maruti Models, it yet again tops the sales chart this month.

With a new budget in full swing from today june2015, and sales tax up @14% its a blow for automotive industry. Even service cost to go up!! Car prices already shooting high up even the service and spares to be expensive, its a punch directed against already sickened automobile industry

German car maker Volkswagen announced a 57% increase in sales in May 2015 at 4,167 units as compared to 2,657 units sold in May 2014.

'This increase in sales comes on the back of the recent successful launch of the new Jetta. The Volkswagen Polo, the only hatchback in its segment, also continues to contribute to Volkswagen's increase in sales', the company claimed in a media release.

Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said "We are happy to note that our sales have gone up by 57% in May 2015, on a year-on-year basis. This is a clear indication of the fact that, increasingly, car buyers in India now recognize and appreciate the key attributes of Volkswagen cars, which are best-in-class build quality and safety, efficiency and driving dynamics."

Honda's break up of May sales.

Brio and Mobilio ( though up from last month) way below the average figures - tending to be a duds! City drops in volumes from last month. Production being freed up for Jazz?

Has Maruti seen any challenger to it's Top position in the Monthly Sales chart in the last 15 or 20 or 25 years?

Hyundai, which is the 2nd largest car maker in India, sells just about 50% volumes of what Maruti does. We can safely say that Maruti's Top position is pretty safe for the next many many months or even many years.

With competitors like Ford, Renault/Nissan, Honda, Tata, all launching new models in the Indian market and widening their Dealer Network across the country in a measured fashion, Maruti's market share (which currently is around 46 to 49%) will gradually come down to something in the region of 38 to 40% over the next 24-36 months. But still Maruti will continue to be the largest car maker in India by a large margin.

Maruti Suzuki holds on to 5 positions in the top ten vehicles sold in May 2015. Very impressive show by MS going by its sales numbers!
Alto has returned as the highest selling car in the country in May 2015 by selling 22595 units. Honda loses Amaze and now City is its sole car in the list.

Swift+Dzire are steady sellers with total volumes between 35K to 37K for the last many months. Elite i20 sales have dropped sharply M-o-M. Grand i10 has partly compensated that drop. Celerio sales could rise further with launch of Diesel model. Let's see which model's sales it eats into. Celerio Diesel will be (expected) priced between 5 to 6 lakhs and will sell primarily because of it's fuel efficiency, because power is low for that price point. I think there will be tremendous demand for Celerio Diesel from intra-city Taxi market.
