@gns, I am sorry, I think I was confused while reading your query. No it is not working with USB cable without wireless facility switched on.
I tried this on my Laptop yesterday. I heard there is internet sharing in windows thru wifi (Wifi hotspot ?). Is that feature not there ? Enable the 3g/2g on your phone and configure wifi hotspot (as a router). Then connect to that wireless network from any wifi enabled devices ?
I read somewhere that feature is verymuch there in windows. That is a great/must have feature (especially on the go / when power is not there)

I think the feature you are talking about is available, but the one we(gns and me) were discussing about a desktop without any wireless detection facility and connected the phone internet through USB calbe

Yes the case looks simple and neat. Even Raja also bought one for his 720 and that looks excellent. The flip type is little disturbing as at times it is not easy to open the flip with one hand

We were discussing about USB Tethering. It is not available in Lumia phones. Yes, it does have wi-fi hotspot but my Desktop do not have wi-fi receiver. I have to purchase a wifi adaptor for using it in my desktop.
Not all androids. Most of Sony handsets do not support that. My friends Xperia SP doesn't support that anyway. Samsung might support.
