On our view back to Kargil
Local School near the Parkachik glacier ..
There was no one on the road to even ask where we are and to take a decision.. so the safe decision was to turn back. And we turned back. The drive back was again very torturous but we enjoyed every bit of it. On the way back we noticed a big mouse like creature crossing in front of our SUV. We immediately stopped, took out our camera gear and tried shooting. And that was the Ladakh famous mouse/mongoose I guess. It was pretty quick and quickly disappeared in one of the holes. Even after waiting for 10+ mins, that guy did not come out so we carried on our journey.
On the way to Kargil
On the way to Kargil
We were pretty hungry by this time and believe me there was nothing to buy anywhere .. no shops.. no people nothing at all. We had to survive on biscuits, chips and some remaining bfast paronthas and water. After driving for about few kms, we came across a fork and had to decide which direction to take so we can make it to Kargil on time. And we decided to take a left instead of a right curve and after driving a few kms agin we realised we are on the wrong route and its not the same we took when coming. So we decided to drive on this route until we see someone to guide us. Diesel for this trip wasn't a problem as we had around little below 3/4th of the tank left. So we continued further and after 10-12 kms we saw a truck coming our way from opposite direction. We stopped the guy and asked him if this route will take us to Kargil and surprisingly it was the right direction and the route. We were relieved to hear that and continued further. This route was better than the route that we took while we came but was not as adventurous as the one we took earlier. Anyway so were happy that we will reach Kargil through this route as well.
On the way to Kargil we were surprised to see Prasar Bharti board out there. We didn't knew these still existed in India..
Solar cooker
Guess all the houses have these solar cookers installed 'coz the electricity would be very much a luxury out here ..
After about 20+kms of curvy drive with lots of inclines/declines we reached a bridge that again had 2 routes .. now again the question was which one to take? Immediately we saw one local bus coming and the driver guided us for the exact route to Kargil. So we followed the route that was suggested by the bus driver and after about 7-8kms we were on the same old track we took while coming.
We had to make the exit entry in the register at the police check post for the record that we have returned back and then continued further. By this time it was getting darker - not that because it ws getting late but the weather was getting bad.
Wooden bridge ..
Cuti kids.. were sooo happy after we gave them few sweets
On our way back ..
One thing we noticed in entire trip is that the sunset used to be pretty late say after 7:30pm so we had longer days and that helped us few times in the trip. So we rushed towards Kargil and on the way we spotted a Cow venturing and immediately we recalled that we had some leftover Paronthas from morning breakfast .. so we fed the Cow with that.
