It is in AP. But, not too far. It is 60km from Chikkaballapur. You see a Kamat upachar on left side (one and only restaurant you see in that stretch). It is 50 odd km from there.
You need to take left after Kodikonda. Around 15Km once you take left. Roads are good with less crowd.
I will try to upload some pics if i have. I loved the place :)
First, you get the Monolithic statute of Nandi. Huge one as in the pic. There is kind of small park/garden with a pond. You can even see lotus in pond :).
From there, it is less than 1 KM to the temple.
To be frank, I loved the temple designs more than the statue :D
You will love spending time there. Event though a lorry hit my car's back bumper while going (near yeshwanthpur), I was not feeling that pain when I reached the temple. It was an awesome feeling.

Sorry for the accident, probably the shrine there may be very powerful and that's why you had overcome from the painful feelings as soon as you reached there.
Nice review. I too had been here once and recommended to other friends too. It's a nice place to spend a good time peacefully and especially for ones love sculptures/stone works, photography etc.
Ideal plan would be, start from Bangalore about 8-9 AM, have a cool drive, reach there by about 11-12, spend a couple of hours exploring the works and take photos as much as you want, have lunch (If you have a home packed one, nothing like it. There is a small park where you can sit and have your lunch), drive back and reach home by 4-5 PM. An effective day trip from Bangalore!

Me too have been on MY TINY to Lepakshi. Its an ideal one day trip for ppl in Bangalore. We did this short trip 6 months ago. Started at around 11 30 am and we were back by 6 pm. I dont remember, there is one restaurant on NH managed by AP tourism we we had lunch and was good. All in all we had a very good time.

There are many positive inputs about this place, and it looks like very familiar to most of the Bangalore TAIans as well. Probably we can plan for a days meet over there next time.
hai all!
Lepakshi is a world famous heritage temple. It was built during the Vijayanagara empire. It is believed that, this place dates back to the period of Ramayana and a bird namely JATAAYU who fought against Ravan while lifting Sita was fallen here. Rama called LAAY PAKSHI ( Laay means wake up and Pakshi means Bird) to wake up the fallen bird and that is why this place got its name as LEPAKSHI.
The main god here is Veerabhadra and a Durga Temple is also there. This temple is famous for its sclupture and paintings. Apart from these an amazing huge hanging rock pillar mesmerises us. Lepakshi is well known for Monolithic Nandi statue which is largest of its kind in the world.
Actually I reside in Hindupur which is 14KM away from Lepakshi and I know the place very well.
Ram Sir, if you are planning you are welcome and I will make the necessary arrangements.
