Re: 4300K Quality HID Kit Technical Review and Install (W+Pics)

Hi,

Just bought Ciaz Zxi which has projectors but use normal H7 halogen bulbs.
Need your suggestion among which should I opt for:
a. Better Halogen Bulb like Osram Night Breaker Ultimate H7 type. This has better light plus direct fit and also no void in warranty.
b. Or go for HID? If yes please provide the details of HID I must look for (I have no idea of HIDs), will this void warranty? where to buy I stay in small city in West Bengal.

Thanks in advance.
1. if you have projectors, absolutely go for HID kit. you will need the exact same kit as I've used.

2. warranty is a tricky subject, however as hid kit involves no wire cutting, warranty should remain intact. you will have to cut dust caps though.

3. better halogen bulbs are expensive, have poor life and not a serious upgrade in output. these bulbs use trick like gas pressure, Blue coatings and so on to make filaments burn hotter. however this hotter filaments pays in short life.

1. Yes you see the projector in my ownership review - http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...wny-dignity-brown-maruti-suzuki-ciaz-zxi.html
2. Can I have details, like which ballast to use AC or DC. What do you mean by "have to cut dust caps though". Can I have a picture on the same. Moreover where should I buy these online or go for local after market shops?

Thanks for quick response.

2. always buy ac ballasts. I have explained the same in my above review. make sure you buy 4300k color.

3.you.will have to cut dust caps at the back of headlights to route the wires for ballast. make a small silt. then mount ballasts to convinient location.

4. living in village, online was the only option for me. ask the seller to send by speed post as it covers all villages too.

you will not be able to check genuine AC output ballast in local market. shopkeepers don't even know what technical parameters are.

try ringing the seller I've mentioned. he's a dependable fellow.

No its not available in Bangalore. I sourced it from AVS Tuning who are the authorized distributors in India and are based out of Mumbai.

You can google to their site and order online. Any good shop in Bangalore can fix the unit.

Believe me the kit rocks[clap][:D]

I'm glad you liked it.

sir I would not suggest 70w or even 55w hid kits anyday as the high heat and uv radiation will quickly destroy the headlights.

55w or 70w kits use the same 35w bulbs but are overdriven with overspec ballasts.

Re: 4300K Quality HID Kit Technical Review and Install (W+Pics)

Dear JSK,
I,m good, And I'm glad you asked this query.

The true thing is Osram or Philips never make "H" Series HID bulbs originally (Eg. H7, H8). The HID bulbs are Legally in "D" Range, Such as D2s, D2R, D4R.

H= Halogen
D*S= Projector (Discharge, Shielded)
D*R= Reflector (Discharge Arc, Reflective)

Going by the law, Using a Discharge lamp in Halogen housing is Illegal, Hence the likes of Osram/Philips will never make these "H" lamps as they're not allowed to sell them. Even Old style reflector HID Housings (Like in Corolla altis) will use D4R or D2R lamps.

So what we can infer from above its-
1. Any "Philips" kit sold for H-type bulb is simply fake.
2. There are People in china who bring genuine Philips D2s Bulbs, Will slice them and "Re-base" the bare Arc tubes into H-bases. Now what are the clues that the bulb he claims is philips or not because it will not have original base. The chances of Getting genuine Philips Arc tube in H-base hence is very slim. As they're mostly sent to USA for exorbitant prices.

JSK, When I park my XUV thunderbolt near a BMW or Audi with factory 4100K HID setup. The illumination is just as good. I just might have a slight edge as I have HID on Fogs and LED high beam assists which they may lack!
BMW HIDs are slightly warmer at 4100k compared to mine 4300k.

So, Just get a quality Chinese kit and be happy.

i PM'd the seller about the 55W HID. he said that both ballast and bulbs are 50W
must say, one of the cheapest AC ballast with 1 year warranty . more than that item shipped within an hour of purchasing!

Re: 4300K Quality HID Kit Technical Review and Install (W+Pics)

here is a repost-

1)As opposed to Halogen Lamps, The HID 'capsule'
does not have any filaments and hence its not
designed to Operate at a fixed power. Ballasts
decide The power that will be "pumped" into the
capsule. If you buy a 35W kit or 55W kit, Bulbs stay
the same.
2) kelvin CCT is decided by the Bulb, There are rare
earth metal halide salted added to the capsule that
decide how it will glow. However a 55w HID
ballasts heats the salts to a higher degree and
provides somewhat Whiter, washed look.
3) Yes any Bulbs and any ballasts will be
compatiable (Assuming they're automotive and 35w
or 55w ones). However its not recommended to
swap Only 1 bulbs or Mix Bulbs. As the Bulbs age,
The salts (That make white light) deteriorate and
bulbs shift their CCT towards Blue.
An age old 6000K bulb may look like 8000k at the
end of Life. Mixed bulbs will look funny on the ride
and could attract Cops etc.
4) Pumping higher wattage sure costs the Life of
Bulb. But thats still longer than you'll need. Only
TRUE 50w Bulb i've seen are the millitary spec
Philips "FATBOY" DL50. Forget about getting them
in India or anywhere else. Whatever you get in
Consumer market are just overdriven 35W bulbs.
http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...ulb-
Comparison
5) 35W kits are rated by the Output power (35w
going to the Bulb).
With ballast losses its more like 40W kit
55w Kits are rated by Input power. So its more like
45w going to the Bulb. The means real difference is
10W and not 20W like you may assume.
6) For your case, first get 55W ballasts on same
bulbs. Let me know if you like the tint.
