New Delhi 18th Feb, 2017: The vintage cars have sent its most beautiful sirens to the magnificent historic setting at the India Gate, New Delhi way off the beaten track, to make you fall under their spell!
Unique marques at display, grand cultural celebration & so much more! The 2nd day of The 21 Gun Salute International Vintage Car Rally &Concours Show was truly a unique motoring experience. Embracing its grand heritage of heart-stirring rare machines, this event is organized for car enthusiasts & connoisseurs of culture present all around the globe. Each edition of this event displays heritage motoring, like no other event in the country.
Each vintage & classic beauty present at the show triggers one’s imagination, especially the high-precision machineries of the past – redolent of another century – find a new & unusual historic setting for extraordinary harmonies. This year the 21 Gun Salute International Vintage Car Rally witnessed participation from Germany and UK. About 100 rare cars and around 20 vintage bikes, were showcased during the Grand Concours Show field on February 17 and 18, at the India Gate.
The event saw judges & experts from the USA, UK, France and Germany coming to India. The esteemed jury panel from around the world included, Christian H. (Chris) Kramer - a classic car historian, value appraiser, F.I.V.A. Scrutineer& collection advisor, as the chief judge. This year’s Concours Show was judged by a panel of internationally famous judges, generating great excitement among Indian collectors. Setting the standard with their appreciation of fine form, exquisite style and exceptional design, best known arbiters of taste and most knowledgeable collectors of vintage and classic cars. The elite panel of judges included the likes of Mr. Adolfo Orsi - A historian, lecturer, exhibition organizer, museum advisor, auction specialist and restoration expert, Gordon Murray - an extolled name in the automotive industry, Quirina Louwman – deeply involved in the Louwman Museum, Mr. Paul Wood - a Motorsport consultant, Mr. Wolfgang Blaube - A very famous German Motor Journalist, Mr. Paul Wood & Mr. Andrew Wood - Founder P & A Wood, Mr. Jeremy Jackson Sytner– creator of ‘The Grand Tour’ & the Concours of Elegance, UK’, Mr. Peter Larsen - A chronic ******** and Mr. Alexis Delicourt - Expert international automotive.
The cars were judged by the International jury and awarded under various categories like Pre-war, Post-war, Edwardian and Preservation class category.
This was truly a unique event, where several vintage car owners from various parts of the world were present; the global participation & rare marques have increased the rally’s popularity over the years. ‘Maharaja Cars’ were a major attraction at the event. The erstwhile Maharajas of India left their unique stamp on the cars they ordered and many of these are today among the most valuable and sought after by collectors all over the world. While many Princes had a penchant for beautiful-styled sports cars, the Maharajas mainly ordered touring cars that could be converted into grand vehicles for ceremonial occasions, for hunting and other specific purposes.
The event had several Indian & International vintage & classic car owners on board along with esteemed royal families, who had participated along their prized possessions in this milestone event. Great food, amazing music and lots and lots of vintage & classic cars/bikes made this event - a truly magnificent affair to remember.
The 2nd day of the event was a celebration of twin heritage of motoring and Indian culture.
