Fuel Tank Repair, Top Up Of Brake/Clutch Fluid & Power Steering Oil

Few days back, something hit on Fuel Tank. First I noticed some oil setteled on the parking place. Then with the tips of my friend Cyberdoctorind aka Shiva, I checked brake/clutch fluid and other things. But finally, came to know it was a hit on the tank. As a temporary method, I pasted M-Seal and also topped up the Brake/Clutch Fluid & Power Steering Oil.

Here it goes the pictures.

Hmm Hmm... I did not purchased Palio after my UNO & rather went for Wagon R due to low GC of Fiat in those days.

Anyways, go for Indysuspension kit. It's a perfect solution for low GC cars.

IMHO, Your perception was wrong regarding ground clearence of Palio. It was 170 which is still the best. Even in current day, Baleno, i20 has 170 only.

This particular harm to Fuel tank happened because of reckless driving by my nephew and not because of GC.

Heartiest congratulations Raaj, a truely heart decision you went with. Its rightly said Fiat comes with heart.[:)]
Do getthe underbody rustings checked throughly. This machine is a gem to drive do keep it for the lifetime with regular maintenance and driving properly would serve you for very long.Complete body paint and its combinations can be planned once you decide for it,but as of now do get those rusts checked properly.
Agree with you about the tank built quality that fiat has provided with their machines.

Mefeels, 170mm is also lesser by Indian road standards.

Anyways, what's the cost of new fuel tank?
My friend, Sorry, But I fail to understand you. Except Avventura, All of your present and past cars were having just 165 MM GC. So, how could you missed palio which was offering 170MM GC even in 2004. [;)]

However, I haven't changed t the fuel tank and I don't have any plans for such. M-Seal would be just fine. But I need to stick the M-Seal from the inside of the tank too by opening it.

Yes, bro, I have extensive experience of driving cars with GC of 165 mm, and that's why felt that it's not adequate in certain conditions & on non highway roads (unscientific speed breakers & potholes to blame, some times potholes are so big & deep that their crater itself becomes a huge bump) And probably, due to same reason Fiats have raised the GC of their present hatch & sedan to 185 mm.

Anyways, if internal application of M seal is possible, then there shouldn't be any problem.

I asked the price of fuel tank just to know how much you have saved due to M seal.

Thanks very much Vijay for your kind and heartfelt words. [:)]

Yes, I wanted to keep this car for lifetime with possible good service and maintenance. Please guide me on underbody rustings. If possible, I wanted to do it as DIY on some weekend.

Hello raaj
that's some adventure you had. very nicely documented and a treat to read. however I missed at what price you purchased this beauty?

1. use cable ties to prevent wheel caps from falling.
2. install LED dome cabin bulb for better illumination
3. install HID projector setup in existing headlamps. It will save your money on new lamps and also offer fantastic illumination.
4. 170mm gc is really top class. todays wannabe SUV have such. clearances.

feel free to drop me a line regarding DIY or any other help.

I feel, 170 MM is good GC if you drive good enough. But, I agree that we have uncertain roads even on highways. So, it's good to have more GC if possible. But other than Fiats, who are offering good GC?

The fuel tank is priced Rs. 10,500 + Fittings in 99 rpm website.

- I no longer need to use cable ties for wheel caps, since I installed the Original Fiat Nut & Bolt type wheel caps which wouldn't fall down unless we remove the bolts. You can see those caps installation in the first page of this review.
- LED is a good idea for cabin lamp. I shall see my sources whether I could able to install it. Thanks very much.
- I think HID projectors could be damn costly and I don't think I could able to install them in Palio. However, thank you for offering your help regarding DIY and I surely contact you in times of need. [clap]

Regarding the amount I've spent for the car as below.
• Car was bought for Rs. 85,000/-
• Insurance Rs. 6500/-
• Complete Service including all oils and filters + Ac Repair costed me nearly Rs. 12,000/-
• RTO & Other related expenses: Rs. 8000/- (Through Agent)
• Music System & Front Side Components: Rs. 13,000
• Original Fiat Antenna + Its accessories: Rs. 1200 (Earlier I installed a local antenna which was broken on the 2nd day itself which costed Rs.300/-)
• Original Fiat Blue Logo Nut & Bolt Wheel Caps: 3850/- (Earlier I had bought a cheap wheel caps for Rs. 500/- which were fall down on the second day itself)
• Original NEW AC Vents: Rs. 2200/-
• Mobile Charger & Cable - Rs.300/-
• Front Wipers: Rs. 250/-
• Wheel Alignment: Rs. 400/-
• Pollution Check: Rs.200/-
• Nitrogen Gas on Tyres: Rs. 200/-

Hope I've haven't forgot any, however, roughly it costed me about Rs. 1,40,000/-

Apart from that, I've spent for diesel and other few expenses. [:D]

Wow. you have spent almost the principal amount of car on tune ups and maintainance. you must really love fiats!

here are a couple of links that may be of your help-

DIY LED DRL (Low cost and No-Drill approach)

DIY Sports Car LED headlights

http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...ing-lamps-no-drill-metal-bumper-required.html

cost of projector lamps have come down and you can have a retrofit done for about 10k. I was pushing you for projector hids as you said you'll install new headlamps from dealership which by themselves will cost 10k or something.

projector retrofit works for older/ dull headlights as they'll skip the original faded chrome reflectors for shaping light.

Awesome links. Thanks a lot my friend, bhvm. [clap]

Actually, I never even thought about Project Lamps until you recommended. I surely give it a thought when Iam ready, especially after the complete repaint job in future. I hope all the lights and installation would come under 10k. However, I will bother you too much by that time. [:D]

Yes, Ofcourse, I love fiats and loving my car so much too. Iam planning lots of mods such as Complete Repaint, Leather Seats, Underbody painting, Alloy Wheels etc. Let's hope this car would co-operate with me.
