Dear Ananth,
Having owned the exact Classic during early 80's, seeing your restored Yezdi was a feast to my eyes and skipped my heart for a second. Amazing! Great job keeping it stock and seeing that brand new seat (pre-install) brought back fond memories.
Dear Sam & Ananth,
I have been living in the US since mid 80's but love to purchase and restore exact model myself. However, living 10,000 miles from home limits my options in finding a good original stock and restoring it myself. Is there a way I can get help from a trust worthy mechanic who has passion and heart for this who can restore it like Ananth's. very flexible on cost, Quality, and genuinely stock bike are my primary interests. Please let me know. Thank you. Rao

Dear ysrao,

Great to see passion 10000 miles away (so what if someone in Texas sings he's 500 miles away from home[;)]). This is what I love about automobiles. They transcend everything.

Good Yezdi/Jawa mechanics are indeed hard to find and most good ones are down south (Bangalore, Mysore). Spare parts too are not exactly easy to locate and the problem is compounded if one is looking at 'exotic' stuff like block piston assembly. Since you are far away, I would say it'd be a better idea to go in for a restored one.

Regards
Sam

Dear Sam,

Thanks for your response. Yes, 500 or 50000 miles away, love for automobiles is universal. Have to admit that Ananth's pictures did it for me. Ready to start my search for a fully restored, Stock, Yezdi Classic. Any suggestions on where to start the search ? I see several Yezdi classic's for sale on olx (BGL & Mysore) but hard to tell the quality online. Thank you

Rao

PS - Its amazing see the maturity of automobile restoration ecosystem here catering to the passionate enthusiasts [cheers]

Hello Sam, this is Tushar from Pune and I am a Yezdi lover. Though I never had any, I am planning to buy one. I am getting a deal from an unknown person and he is offering his 250 CL2 for Rs30k. The bike is in excellent condition, cosmetically, but how do I check if it is actually good mechanically too. As in, what do i look for while buying the bike.
Waiting for your reply before i buy my dream bike.

Dear Tushar,

There are many things to be checked. What is your level of comfort with the technical details on a motorcycle?

Sam

Sam, to be honest, i didnt know anything about Yezdi. But I always wanted to buy one, and wanted it badly. I saw this CL2 with a mechanic and inquired about the basic stuff like its model, engine condition, checked whether the parts are original, checked the papers and finally bought it. I sold my Pulsar 150 to buy this one. Now have got to know about a few yezdi-jawa mechanics here in pune, so will make them check my bike.
Will get back to you soon.

Mr.Well,You can pay maximum of Rupees 50K for an Unrestored but Running Yezdi !! I can suggest you to go for a Yezdi Road-king 250 than a D250 or a C250 !! Things to check are

1) Rust holes or Eaten Leftovers in Fuel Tank,Chassis (Body Frame),Body Panels.etc
2) Wiring-Check Indicators,Headlights,Tail Lamps,Speedometer
3) Check Oil Color-It must not be Dark Brown or Deep Black
4) Check if Engine is Running/Gears are shifting without Missing or Slippage
5) Check the Documents-FC Should be done,Tax must be paid,Must have a Duplicate and
Original copy of Documents and Papers,Must have RC Book,Should NOT Have Accidental
Records

Thank you

Re: 1981 Yezdi D250 Classi Restoration

Hi

I am a new member to this forum

I am based at Chennai!

After a long haul for Yezdi Roadking, I have decided to go ahead with Yezdi Classic with modified Roadking Petrol tank.

The total cost works out to 45000 including labour.

Please share your views

Hi sundar
posting my yezdi pictures after 2 years. this week end I will post the video for the thump.
1. In my opinion, keeping it in stock is the best way to have yezdi. Modded from classic to Roadking style would never make it like roadking & it is very easy to identify as there are too many things to change if one wants to change it from D250 to Roadking, however its your choice.
2. Rs 45K - Please ask for break up. Its not easy to estimate that way . If you open engine, chain sprocket, wiring, tyres, are quite expensive. Cosmetics in my opinion should cost about 15K (again depends on what kind of chrome & Paint you go for).
3. Hope your vehicle is street legal (RC book, FC is done while you are buying) as this would cost additional money for transfer & FC (Fitness Certificate)
4. Please chose the parts carefully while chrome & buffing. Do not get it "Shining" for the wheel hub, engine covers, break lever etc as it looks very artificial. Yezdi had dull finish for these parts ( You may refer the attached pictures for details)
5.Clearly inform mechanic to retain its looks & seek your opinion in case of any modifications, some times they use their ideas to make it look different (like using bullet headlights, fancy handles, etc). this will spoil the restoration project.
6. As far as possible, go for Black or marron if roadking, other colours does not go well with yezdis.
7. Do not try to change the silencers , if you have the originals, keep the mufflers intact. new make silencers will not give the original thump
8. once you dismantle , keep all the nut bolts in a container & get them nickel plated to reuse the same, mechanics would use all unsized nut bolts .
9. Also when you get the wheels chromed, use the same spokes (get them also nickel plated)
10. If you decide to modify, keep the old spares with you, just in case if you want to bring it back on a later date.
Happy restoration, I enjoyed doing it & enjoying my bike whether I drive it or when I see it in the garage..!!
Lastly, don't worry about over spending, its like building a home, it will be there till you exist..
