Maruti Suzuki is working to introduce the next-gen Swift in India by 2024. The recent spyshots confirm the same. New Suzuki Swift was showcased in an almost-production ready form at the recent Tokyo Motor Show.

New Swift is 15 mm longer, 40 mm narrower and 30 mm taller but retains an overall similar appearance as the existing model. Expect the car to receive a new 1.2L, three-cylinder naturally-aspirated Petrol motor.

2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift: Studio images & Engine details revealed

Suzuki has officially launched the next-generation Swift hatchback in the Japanese market. The same hatchback is expected to come to India next year. While we await the new Swift’s arrival in India, here is a set of official images that have now surfaced online. Suzuki has announced that they will start selling the CVT models of the Swift from December, and for those who have opted for the manual version, the wait will be until January 14, 2024.

The exterior design of the 2024 Swift closely resembles the Swift Concept that Suzuki showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show a few months ago. The car’s design isn’t too different from the current version available in India; it’s actually an evolution of the existing design. However, the car in its new form looks sleeker and sharper. The headlamps are much sleeker, and the design of the LED DRLs is also different from the current ones. The turn indicator is positioned right under the LED DRL.

The redesigned front grille with a gloss black outline gives it a different look. The car also features a redesigned bonnet and bumper, flared fenders, and a floating design for the roof. At the rear, Suzuki offers a clear lens all-LED tail lamp unit with C-shaped LED elements. The 3D design of the tail lamps complements the overall design of the car.

Similarly, the interior of the 2024 Swift has been revamped. It now boasts a layered dashboard design with a 9-inch floating-type touchscreen infotainment system in the center. The Suzuki Swift also comes equipped with automatic climate control, fabric seat covers, a multi-function steering wheel, a color MID, and other features.

Suzuki will offer the Swift with a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder petrol engine tuned for both performance and fuel efficiency. A mild hybrid version of the Swift is also available in the Japanese market. The Indian version of the Swift will be launched with a strong hybrid system, becoming the first hatchback in the segment to offer this feature.

The Japanese version of the Swift also gets the AllGrip Auto feature, an AWD system that automatically engages when there is less traction. AWD has been offered in the Swift sold in the international market for a long time. In India, we only have the FWD version. Suzuki is also offering ADAS features like Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBS II), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Driver Monitoring System (DMS), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and eCall. Like most Suzuki cars in India and abroad, the new Swift also comes with Suzuki’s connected car features.

Regarding color options, Suzuki offers the new Swift in eight single-tone options and four dual-tone options, including new colors: Frontier Blue Pearl Metallic and Cool Yellow Metallic. Other color options for the new Swift are Flame Orange, Caravan Ivory, Pure White, Premium Silver, Star Silver, and Super Black. Suzuki also offers four dual-tone color options for the Swift: Frontier Blue/Black Roof, Burning Red/Black Roof, Cool Yellow/Black Roof, and Pure White/Black Roof.

Engine details

The Japanese market Swift boasts a 1,197cc, 12-valve DOHC engine generating 82hp at 5,700rpm and 108Nm at 4,500rpm. The available transmission is a CVT gearbox, and Suzuki offers a mild-hybrid variant that enhances performance with an additional 3.1hp and 60Nm of torque from a DC synchronous motor. Notably, the standard and mild-hybrid Swift models exhibit fuel efficiency figures of 23.4kpl and 24.5kpl, respectively, based on the WLTP cycle.

The new Z12E engine, designed for the Swift, prioritizes robust pulling power at the lower end of the rev range, distinguishing it from the free-revving nature of the current K12 engine. While the K12 engine in the existing Swift, a four-cylinder 1,197cc unit, produces 90hp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 4,400rpm, the Z12E aims for enhanced volumetric efficiency and torque.

I don't think the Swift will have any mild hybrid tech. The leaked pictures of the Swift at the showroom look like the ZXI+ variant with 16-inch alloys, just like the international version. There's no hybrid badge at the rear either. So, I reckon it's just a Swift with a 1.2 3-cylinder engine and a 5-speed AMT.
