Nissan VIN Decoding

​

A typical Nissan India car VIN has 17 characters beginning with MD. You'll find the full VIN / chassis number of Nissan cars on the engine firewall as shown above.

The 10th character represents manufacturing year and 11th character denotes the month.

Decoding Month:

• 1 = January
• 2 = February
• 3 = March
• 4 = April
• 5 = May
• 6 = June
• 7 = July
• 8 = August
• 9 = September
• A = October
• B = November
• C = December

Decoding Year:

• A = 2010
• B = 2011
• C = 2012
• D = 2013
• E = 2014

Therefore, VIN shown in the image above depicts that the car is May 2014 manufactured.

^^ Even i knew that, but the question is, which month it is? I checked the VIIN number in car and it is indeed 17 digits. Now i am confused!

Hi furious_driver, For Hyundai Xcent the Manufacturing month is mentioned in the 19 digit VIN Under the driver seat.It must be the 17 digits that you received plus *F (F for june manufacturing)

My VIN ends with *F, which means it is June manufactured, right? BTW It is Hyundai Xcent.

Got only the 17 digit number....... planning to do PDI tomorrow. May i know where can i find the VIN in the car. It is i20

^^ Same happened here. Just check at the label they put near rear window. There you can see your 19 digit VIN. Even for me same thing happened where SA guy gave me 17 digit and i went to check it and found one with *F append at end of VIN number, labelled as Chassis No.

At the show room, there was a i20 sportz version displayed and it had "BD" located at the rear window opposite to the driver side. Is it the one you are referring?

Similarly I learnt from my friend that the VIN number will be stamped on the driver seat frame. i.e just below the driver seat.Is it the only area where the VIN will be stamped?

So, i should take in to account the last character. which is 'D' which translates to 'APRIL'. Any ways thanks for the clarity.
