Re: VIN number for Hyundai cars

I received a VIN number for a new Xcent, it's only 17 characters. The 9th character of the number is supposed to be a validation check (checksum). The number is not matching, it's supposed to be an 8, but it's an L. I searched few other Hyundai VIN numbers also and it appears to be the case with them as well. On the other hand, I came across a Ford car VIN, and the validation character matched.

Wanted to check if Hyundai follows this standard while generating VIN numbers? Or I'm missing something.
Read this thread few pages earlier, how to decode Hyundai VIN.

Maruti Suzuki VIN Decoding

Maruti-Suzuki-VIN-Location.jpg

There was no explanation on decoding a Maruti Suzuki VIN in this thread which left some members in confusion.

A typical Maruti Suzuki VIN has 19 characters. The last two digits that depict manufacturing month and year are etched after a space.

You'll find the full VIN / chassis number of Maruti Suzuki cars on the engine firewall as shown in the image above.

The 18th character represents Month and 19th character represents Year of manufacture.

Decoding Month:
  • A = January
  • B = February
  • C = March
  • D = April
  • E = May
  • F = June
  • G = July
  • H = August
  • J = September
  • K = October
  • L = November
  • M = December
Decoding Year:
  • E = 2014
  • D = 2013
  • C = 2012
  • B = 2011
  • A = 2010
  • 9 = 2009
  • 8 = 2008
  • 7 = 2007
  • 6 = 2006
  • 5 = 2005
Therefore, VIN shown in the image above depicts that the car is May 2014 manufactured.

Expecting the car by end of month.

Kindly give the last letter of VIN no to decode month of manufacturing. Its Hyundai and VIN must be of 19 digit like "MALAN51CMAM0403960K" this.

Facing same issue. They gave just 17 letters. For me it is MALA841CCEM03***1. Can someone please decode this, else confirm whether it is correct or not?
Looking at your VIN i guess the ninth character should be "L" and not "C". Anyways, ask your dealer to give full 19 digit number. After 17th digit there are two more digits in which 18th is "*" and 19th must be some alphabet.

The VIN number you stated is of Xcent and its 2014 model. I am having Grand i10 and my VIN is stamped under drivers seat, i guess the location is same for Xcent as well.

There is an easy way to decode Hyundai VIN , infact you can decode DOM also. Look back at this thread this was explained earlier.
I have tried decoding DOM through that sticker pasted on rear window but failed to get exact date, which means that numbers are for some different use [;)]
