No harm in buying December make car. Maintenance would be higher than others I guess, but at least I have never cared to compare with other cars. My car has been as reliable as it can get since day 1. If Jazz's launch is near, then you should wait and then evaluate between the two cars.
Thanks Rightnow, i am not too keen to stretch my budget. The Jazz or the upcoming suzuki premium hatchback (read: YRA) will definitely be more than 7 lakh otr. Even the refreshed swift zxi currently retails for arnd 7.3 otr Mumbai and hence my inclination towards Polo.

Ask him for more discounts or check with another vw dealer. 50000rs is not much , if he doesn't increase the discounts , get other things complementary like extended warranty , car cover , mats , underbody coating etc.

And can you post the price list here , i'm asking because the prices of such things are already included in the otr prices.

I don't like the swift , just take a td of the i20 as well and then decide.
The price quoted by the dealer (best / no-regret price) is as follows:
Ex showroom - 6,22, 802
Registration - 57, 942
Handling /Depot charges - 5,900
Insurance - i plan to take from outside (suggestions pls..TATA AIG? need a zero dep.)

And what about 2015's price ?

The price you mentioned above is 686644 without insurance. And insurance would cost around 14-18k. So that is 7 lakhs otr.

Then take the insurance from the dealer only. Tata aig is good. I'm using it.

Thanks for the help, i have booked the 1.2 Polo HIghline and expect delivery by 30th of this month (car is ready but registration and loan sanctioning will take time). I will do the pdi as per the checklists available on TAI. The vin number of the car had 2014 Dec manufacturing and its 2015 model car. I have a few questions to conclude:

1. Coming on to the best and hassle free zero dep insurance, what companies should i look for? Any add-on riders i should opt for in addition to zero dep (like consumables, labor etc..?) What should be the IDV? I want complete coverage from insurance since the car will also be used by my younger brother who has just learnt to drive ;-)

2. Which is the best service station for VW in Mumbai?

3. Any other pointers I should look for at the time of PDI / registration / before taking delivery?

Many Many thanks in anticipation. I will try best to pen down my buying experiences and post photographs in a separate thread and apologies for hijacking this thread, if i have..

regards.

^^ My comment on service station is:

1. I am with Bharati Axa Zero Dep for 3rd year.
2. The Shivdi service station is good. Though smaller, they service the cars fast.
3. Pointers would be the Odo should not be more than 150 Kms of running. No scratches anywhere on the body. No obvious sign of physical damage. These are the basics.

BTW congrats on your new car. Enjoy the warm feeling in winter. :-)

Yes, the new polo diesel is 1.5 with 4 cylinder and test drive vehicle had run 1800 km. The car was a lot quieter than earlier one. (My cousin owns polo tdi 2012 and it makes a lot of noise).

Average of polo according to my cousin would be 10 to 12 km/pl for petrol for city (which is lesser than peer cars)..will take a test drive for polo once as i took test drive for diesel.
My Petrol Polo gets 13-14 kmpl in city.
Update after a long time

Polo has done 12500 kms in almost 2 years. Great run so far. I have gone over some nasty pot holes during the rainy season but the car held well.
FE is 14 kmpl in cities,
19 kmpl on highways at 80 kmph and
17 kmpl at 120 kmph.

2nd service is scheduled for mid December.

Will post more pics after I polish her a bit. [:)]
mine one almost completed 13k Kms in 1 yr 3 months
in cities ican get almost 14 - 15 kmpl
while in highways or less traffic situations got up to 19.2 kmpl @ 60 - 80 kmph

I easily get 17-18 kmpl when travelling at variable speed between 60-120 kph on Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

I get 14-15 kmpl when roads are empty.

In extremely heavy traffic, I have seen it go down to 8 kmpl (Western Express Highway, Mumbai, between Bandra up to Borivali at 7 PM)

BTW, Just ordered this

So i guess polo's will be better than my i10 :p or same of not worse.

Dad and i talked about replacing the the i10 with grand i10 or the xcent. But polo with 2 airbags and abs and all the required features for dad will be the best. I was thinking polo comfortline petrol which will cost around 6.5 lakhs on road. And i am sure therr must be some discounts going on.

The only reason i haven't talked about polo with my dad is the maintenence. Again after the initial years i will switch to bosch or any other mechanic , the thing i am afraid of are the parts costs.

Do you know the average costs of clutch for the petrol or some easily breakable parts like the radiator etc ?

Polo is a good choice, regarding maintenance since it has 1 year or 15000 kms service interval, I expect it to be in range of 6.5k to 8k. Since its a petrol it will lower I think. Here are some parts & thier prices
1. Clutch Plate - Rs. 2800
2. Pressure Plate - Rs. 2900
3. Brake Pads - Rs. 1800

Thanks for your reply. Rates seem decent. Will have a talk with my dad tomorrow and will confirm the prices and offer from vw.

how much mileage you are getting within city limits ?
In city limits and if the traffic is not much worse, then you can expect 13 - 14kmpl, and if the road is almost empty, or, if you can maintain a constant speed around 40 - 50kmph, then you can get near to 16 kmpl easily. That what i noticed from mine. Never got stuck in extreme traffic[:)]
