Chevy recalls 13,000 Corvettes because the Seatbelts might lock up

General Motors is recalling the Chevrolet Corvette because occupants might be unable to use the seatbelts. Not good. The automaker discovered that the driver and passenger seatbelt retractors could have two out-of-spec internal components that, if the belt is fully extended, lock the seatbelt in the stowed position, preventing an occupant from using it. The recall affects 13,464 2024-2025 Corvettes.

The automaker began looking into the issue in late February after an engineer observed a lock-up in a 2024 Corvette seatbelt. General Motors opened an investigation on April 9, identifying 56 complaints possibly related to the issue it had received between October 13, 2023, and May 21, 2024.

Occupants not wearing a seatbelt could be injured in a crash or receive a citation for not wearing it. GM decided on May 30 to issue a recall, and it is unaware of any accidents or injuries associated with the problem.

The recall also includes a stop-delivery letter for dealers for the 2024 and 2025 Corvette. It notes that replacement parts are not currently available for the sports car, and it makes no mention of when they will be in stock, so dealers can’t sell the Corvette. Once they have them, Chevy dealers will replace the bad retractors free of charge.

GM will begin notifying customers about the recall on July 22.

Toyota recalls 13,000 cars over camera defect that increases risk of hitting pedestrians

Toyota issued a safety recall for 13,000 Toyota Crown cars on Friday, citing a defect with the built-in cameras.

Any front-view or rearview camera case is vulnerable to water damage, which could cause the camera to short circuit and obstruct views, the automotive manufacturer said in a news release.

"If the rearview image does not display, there can be an increased risk of striking and injuring a pedestrian while backing the vehicle," the company said.

Toyota is set inform owners of the issue by mid-August, saying that dealers will “inspect the serial number of the affected cameras and, if necessary, replace them at no cost to customers.”

Fisker recalls Ocean EV days before Company files for Bankruptcy

  • Fisker recalled 6864 Ocean SUVs earlier this month, days before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection late Monday.
  • The recall concerns a loss of drive power in the Motor Control Unit which can be fixed via an over-the-air update.
Fisker's recall of all 2023 Ocean SUVs was reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on June 5, less than two weeks before the company filed for Chapter 11 protection. The recall stems from a software issue in the MCU and the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), which may cause the Ocean to enter a fail-safe mode unexpectedly, resulting in a loss of drive power.

Documents associated with the recall show that 100 percent of the recall population is estimated to have defective MCU and VCU software. The car may automatically shift from Drive to Neutral to Park when coming to a stop and must be power-cycled to resolve the issue. The automaker will fix the problem with an over-the-air update to both the MCU and the VCU.

Stellantis recalls over 1 million vehicles for Rearview Camera issue

The over-the-air software update recall includes 2021-2022 Dodge Durango, 2021-2023 Chrysler Pacifica, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, 2022 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 2022-2023 Jeep Compass, Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and Ram Promaster vehicles and covers 1.033 million vehicles in the United States and 126,000 in Canada.

The vehicles’ radio software may be preventing rearview images from displaying, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

A request to accept the update will appear on the media screens of recalled vehicles. Stellantis said the software has already been updated in more than 735,000 vehicles.

The company began studying the issue in October 2023 and the automaker reviewed warranty data, field records, and customer assistance records.

The automaker said it is unaware of any related injuries or crashes to the recall issue.

Toyota recalls certain 2024 model year Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX vehicles

Toyota is conducting a noncompliance safety recall involving certain model year 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX vehicles. Approximately, 145,000 vehicles are involved in this recall in the U.S.

The curtain shield airbag on the driver’s side may not deploy as intended during certain crashes if the driver’s window is rolled down. If this occurs, the vehicles may not meet a federal safety standard, increasing the risk of injury during certain crashes.

Toyota is currently developing a remedy for this issue. Customers will be notified about this issue by the middle of August 2024.

Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is current as of today’s filing date and is subject to change thereafter. To see if your vehicle is involved in a safety recall visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information.

Lighting recall involves Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback

Audi has recalled nearly 23,000 Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback vehicles due to lighting problems.

The recalled 2022-2024 Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback were equipped with the incorrect headlight control module software.

According to Audi, the incorrect headlight control module software may cause the parking lights to fail when the headlights are turned on and the turn signals are activated.

The problem was caused by a headlight control module software data set that was intended for European Audi vehicles, not vehicles for the American market.

Audi discovered the problem in March during internal testing, causing Audi and the supplier to investigate the issue. Audi decided to order a recall when it was determined the lighting problems violated U.S. safety standards.

Audi never found any warranty claims, crashes or injuries.

About 5,000 of the recalled Audi vehicles are in Canada. Audi dealers will update the headlight control module software once recall letters are mailed July 12, 2024.

Mercedes-Benz recalls 20,000 vehicles due to fire hazard

Mercedes-Benz has recalled nearly 20,000 vehicles at risk of electrical short circuits and fires. The transmission wiring harness connection might not have been correctly fixed during an August 2022 Mercedes recall for the same problem.

The faulty recall repairs can expose the electrical connectors to corrosion and result in electrical short circuits.

  • 2021-2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT43
  • 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG E53
  • 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz E53 Coupe
  • 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz E53 Cabriolet
  • 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT53
  • 2019-2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLS53
"In this case, water might enter the connector, over time, and result in a short circuit. The short circuit might lead to thermal overload of the connector when the vehicle is parked. Subsequently, the risk of fire cannot be ruled out." — Mercedes
The automaker says a driver might be alerted to a problem if the yellow battery indicator light illuminates and/or a “4MATIC malfunction” warning message activates in the instrument cluster.

Nearly 2,700 of the vehicles are recalled in Canada.

All owners of vehicles involved in the 2022 Mercedes recall will need to have the new repairs.

Mercedes dealers will replace the two-part wiring harnesses and connectors once recall letters are mailed August 13, 2024.

Ford recalls 668K F-150 pickup trucks over unexpected downshift issue

Ford announced Tuesday that it's issuing a recall for the 2014 model year F-150 pickup trucks because they can unexpectedly downshift into the first gear and cause the driver to lose control or the rear wheels to lock up.

A loss of signal can cause the transmission to downshift regardless of vehicle speed, the company told the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall covers 668,000 Ford F-150 trucks worldwide, including 552,000 in the U.S. Ford said it's aware of 300 warranty reports, 96 field reports and 124 customer complaints covering 482 vehicles related to the unexpected downshifting on the 2014 F-150.

Those include two injury reports and one crash that may be related to the issue. NHTSA said one owner said he "experienced an unexpected downshift causing his vehicle to crash into a concrete barrier and another vehicle, injuring both him and the driver of the other vehicle."

Ford says it expects the repair, which will come in the form of a software update performed by dealers on the powertrain control module software, to be available in Q3 2024. Once the automaker has the repairs ready, customers can complete the repair using mobile service and pickup and delivery at participating dealerships.

The company said that before drivers experience a downshift to first gear, the malfunction indicator light (MIL) may illuminate. In some cases, the output shaft signal could recover while driving and the vehicle will resume normal function; in other cases, the vehicle may need to be stopped and restarted to regain normal transmission operation.

NHTSA and Ford have met on several occasions since March to discuss the issue before Ford agreed to the latest recall.

The company expects that the number of vehicles impacted by the issue to be less than 1% of the total recall population. Ford also said the rate of downshift reports for 2014 model year F-150 remains lower than the 2011-2013 F-150 vehicles previously recalled.

Volkswagen recalling 307,000 vehicles over airbag sensor wiring: Report

Volkswagen said on Wednesday it was recalling over 307,000 vehicles in North America due to a potential wiring fault that may deactivate front passenger air bags when the seat is occupied.
The recall covers 271,000 2021-2024 model year Atlas and 2020-2024 Atlas Cross Sport SUVs in the United States and about 36,000 in Canada where the passenger occupant detection system (PODS) may experience a fault in the wiring and could pose a safety risk in the event of a crash.

This is the second recall by VW over the issue. In March 2023, Volkswagen recalled 143,000 2018-2021 Atlas and 2020 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles over the issue and the automaker met with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to discuss the differences between the production periods.

VW said "out of abundance of caution, the committee decided to recall the Atlas vehicles with a specific technology installed" and said it was based on 1,730 warranty claims for replaced PODS parts. Volkswagen will notify all owners of the affected vehicles by August 16, the company said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

"Once parts are ready, Volkswagen dealers will replace the PODS sensor mat and wiring harness with improved parts free of charge," Volkswagen added.

Until the recall repair has been performed, NHTSA advised vehicle owners to avoid the use of the front passenger seat when possible.

The recall also affects nearly 36,000 vehicles in Canada.

Toyota recalls 11,000 Lexus RXs, NXs over head restraint issue

A Lexus NX and Lexus RX recall involves more than 12,000 SUVs in Canada and the U.S. because of headrest problems. Recalled are 2024 Lexus RX and 2024-2025 Lexus NX SUVs equipped with front driver and passenger head restraints that may be removed without pressing the release buttons.

Limited information is available, but Lexus says the headrest problem increases the risk of injuries to occupants and it also violates safety standards. More than 1,000 of the SUVs are recalled in Canada.

Lexus dealers will replace the front driver and passenger head restraints.

Lexus RX and Lexus NX owners should watch for headrest recall letters by the end of August 2024.

Old Fiat 500 recalled over TPMS electronic control unit module software issue

Fiat 500 tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) problems have caused a recall of more than 11,600 cars equipped with TPMS warning lights that may not activate like they should. A driver won't be warned of low tire pressure without an illuminated warning light.

The Chrysler recall involves 2014-2019 Fiat 500 cars that need to visit dealerships to have the tire pressure monitoring system electronic control unit modules reprogrammed.

A Chrysler assembly plant learned during a test in February 2019 about TPMS sensor values potentially being programmed incorrectly during assembly.

In April 2019, Chrysler petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration "for exemption from the notification and remedy requirements."

It took five years for NHTSA to decide about the petition, but in June NHTSA published its denial online, leading FCA to announce the recall.

Fiat 500 owners will receive TPMS recall letters in the middle of August 2024.

Volkswagen Golf and Atlas recalled over Backup Cameras

Volkswagen backup camera problems caused a rearview camera image recall of 98,000 of these vehicles.

  • 2022-2024 Volkswagen Golf R
  • 2022-2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI
  • 2024 Volkswagen Atlas
  • 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
The rearview camera image may be delayed or deactivated after shifting into REVERSE.

"Various software errors may lead to a delay or black screen of the rearview image or the system may not start up at all."
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contacted Volkswagen in August 2023 regarding a 2022 VW Golf rearview camera. A 2024 VW Atlas owner also made complaints about various rearview camera image problems.

The problem was under investigation by VW when NHTSA contacted the automaker about backup cameras in Volkswagen Golf vehicles.

Engineers didn't find any problem with the cameras, but there were issues with the infotainment system software, along with 500 rearview camera warranty claims.

More than 13,500 of the vehicles are recalled in Canada.

VW backup camera recall letters are expected to be mailed August 23, 2024, and dealerships will update the infotainment system software.

With questions about the rearview camera recall, VW can be contacted at 800-893-5298, reference backup camera recall number 91US.

Brake Fluid leaks and Circuit Failures cause Audi e-tron recall

Audi e-tron front axle brake hoses will be replaced on 2022-2024 Audi RS e-tron GT and Audi e-tron GT vehicles because of brake fluid leaks and brake circuit failures.

About 10,400 vehicles are recalled because the front axle brake hoses can tear and cause brake fluid leaks and circuit failures.

"Under certain operating conditions, high tensions due to deflection and bending can lead to an overstrain of the mesh with cracks in the fabric of the front axle brake hoses." — Audi
A failed brake circuit can cause reduced vehicle braking capability and longer stopping distances.

A driver will likely see a low brake fluid level warning light. The Canadian version includes 747 Audi vehicles.

Audi e-tron recall letters will be mailed August 16, 2024, but owners may call 800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 47UP.

Ford recalls more than 30,000 Mustangs over potential loss of steering control

Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for more than 30,000 Mustangs in model years 2022-2023 due to issues with a steering sensor that may result in increased crash risk.

According to a recall notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, some Mustangs may have a secondary steering torque sensor that was calibrated improperly, potentially causing the wheel to move side to side involuntarily.

A steering wheel that turns unintentionally can cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash, said the company. Here's what we know about the Mustang recall.

The recall, reported to NHTSA on June 28, impacts 2022 and 2023 Mustang models. Around 30,735 vehicles are potentially affected by an issue with the secondary steering torque sensor. The digital sensor may not be calibrated properly, which can cause the steering wheel to turn side to side against the driver's intentions.

According to the company, the issue was caused by inverted wires during machine maintenance at the supplier's torque sensor calibration station and may cause the steering wheel to move back and forth without warning when the driver attempts to steer.

As of June 28, Ford was not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.

Customers can have their vehicle's Steering Control Module (PSCM) software updated for free at a Ford dealer. Owners of affected cars will be notified via mail.

If vehicle owners have already paid to have this issue fixed prior to the recall notice, they may qualify for reimbursement until August 22, 2024.

2024 GMC Canyon recalled for unsecured Fuel Tank Lock Ring

2024-GMC-Canyon-AT4X-AEV-Edition-Media-Drive-Exterior-001-front-three-quarters-DRL-daytime-run...jpg

Some units of the 2024 GMC Canyon are included in a Safety Recall issued by GM, with affected trucks including a fuel tank lock ring that wasn’t properly secured during production by the third-party supplier.

“General Motors is voluntarily recalling certain model year 2024 Chevrolet Colorados and GMC Canyons to inspect and, if necessary, fully lock the fuel tank lock ring,” said the automaker in a statement provided to GM Authority. “The safety and satisfaction of our customers are our highest priorities and we’re working to remedy this matter as quickly as possible.”

The problem: affected 2024 GMC Canyon pickups are subject to a production error in which the fuel pump and fuel tank assembly are connected by a lock ring that was not fully locked at the factory.

The hazards: with a loose fuel tank lock ring, the jolt caused by a crash or other impact the 2024 GMC Canyon may be involved in could cause the lock ring to open. With no seal between the fuel pump and fuel tank, gasoline may slosh out, potentially catching fire if it contacts hot surfaces, sparks, or flame, with a chance of setting the crashed vehicle ablaze. GM is not aware of any field incidents associated with this condition.

The fix: General Motors instructs service personnel properly certified for GM service to inspect the fuel tank lock ring of possibly involved 2024 GMC Canyon trucks brought to the dealership for service or in current inventory. If the lock ring is loose, it should be retorqued, ensuring the fuel sender lock ring retainer is fully locked.

No replacement parts are needed to complete the fix, which requires approximately 1.7 hours of labor. GM stresses that the fuel tank pump module should not be removed at any time during inspection or repair.

Number of affected vehicles: a total of 2,492 GMC Canyon units are affected by the recall, along with 6,130 Chevy Colorado units. Vehicles held in inventory must not be sold, traded, delivered, or demonstrated until correctly inspected and, if necessary, fixed.
