Tata Motors has introduced its new twin-cylinder CNG setup on the Tiago hatchback and Tigor sedan, and the two models are now priced at Rs 6.55 lakh and 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Along with these, Tata Motors has also launched the Punch CNG at Rs 7.10 lakh (ex-showroom). With these, the Indian manufacturer now has four models in its CNG line-up, including the Altroz, with all of them now getting its new twin-cylinder technology.
The only new addition on both models is the new twin-cylinder setup that first debuted with the Altroz CNG. Instead of using a single, large cylinder in the boot, Tata Motors has split it into two and packaged it under the boot floor.
With the older set-up, the Tiago and Tigor CNG had a boot space of 80 and 205 litres, respectively. With the new set-up, the boot space has increased but Tata has not yet mentioned the increased capacity.
While the Altroz and Punch are based on the ALFA platform, which Tata Motors designed with this twin-cylinder tech in mind, the Tiago and Tigor are based on the older X0 platform.
Under the hood, the Tiago and Tigor CNG continue with the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In petrol mode, it produces 86hp and 113Nm of torque and in the CNG mode, it produces 73 hp and 95 Nm of peak torque.
Here’s a detailed break-up of the prices of the Tiago and Tigor CNG:
