The new Tata Nexon based SUV Coupe is expected to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2023. A possible debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in January can’t be ignored. Internally called the Blackbird, the new Tata Nexon based mid-sized Coupe SUV will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in its category.
Tata Motors will first introduce the electric version of the Nexon Coupe SUV. It will also be offered with petrol and diesel engine options, but at a later stage. The new model will be built on the same X1 platform that underpins the Nexon. Tata engineers will tweak the platform for a bigger model.
The new Tata Coupe SUV wheelbase is likely to be increased around 50mm and is expected to measure around 4.3 meters in length. It will share the body styles with the Nexon. It will source the A-pillar, windscreen and front doors from the Nexon, while big changes will be made post the B-pillar. The SUV Coupe will ride on bigger wheels. it will have longer doors, tapering roof, and all-new rear profile with a larger overhang. Compared to the Nexon, the new mid-sized SUV Coupe is expected to offer more rear seat legroom and bigger boot.
The electric version is expected to be equipped with a larger 40kWh battery pack with range over 400kms. It will enjoy the tax benefits offered on the electric vehicles, a flat 5 percent GST. The electric model will rival the likes of the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV.
The new Tata Nexon SUV Coupe is expected to be powered by a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is currently under development. This 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine is expected to produce around 160bhp of power. It will first introduce in the Safari and the Harrier. The diesel model of the Coupe SUV will receive the 110bhp, 1.5L turbo engine that powers the Nexon. This engine will be tuned to meet the tougher emission norms in 2023.
