Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Hey Gaurav,
Great thread. The detailed reviews at various stages have been fantastic. Recently booked the new Polo Highline (petrol) in ShadowBlue. Your thread has been extremely helpful in making the decision. Envy you for being able to travel to some absolutely stunning locations as well.
Thanks a lot for those kind words James and heartiest congrats for your new Polo. Would be the 1st shadowblue Polo on TAI.[clap] Envy you for that![:D]
So when are you getting the delivery of your car?

Regarding travelling a lot, yes i do and i love doing it and my camera is there in my bag all the times so whenever and where ever i am,i just keep clicking random pictures. Luckily, some do turn out to be good.
I am eagerly waiting for May to arrive soon so that i can give you all a nice travelogue of Leh - Ladakh.[:)]

Anyways Cheers for your new Polo and wish you get your hands on her soon and enjoy each & every moment spent with her.

^^ Color her golden. [;)]

Or change tail lights and wheels to regain that exclusivity.
Hehe good one bro. My wheels are already changed to the after market chrome ones which make my car stand out from the other Polo's here. Regarding the tail lamps, i am seriously considering getting something new on my car as its been a lot of time now that i haven't done any mods on her. Let's see when that time comes.

Thanks a lot carfreak. Glad you liked the snow pics. Yes the only two cars considered seriously when i was buying were the Polo and Punto. As destiny would have it,my cousin bought a Punto just a month before and then i went in for my dream car - Polo. Surely the two most sturdiest hatches around.

Yes can't wait. Delivery is expected to be between Mar 20-Apr 2. They have delayed it because the new shadow blue is apparently in particularly high demand. They were willing to provide the Red in 3 weeks but my wife wouldn't budge on the color (not that I disagree [:D]). Have been planning a Leh trip for ages but somehow never make it. Hope you have fun in May!

Thanks a lot mate. Leh should be fun. And good to know that you are waiting for the new color. I am sure it'll be worth the wait. Although to be honest with you Red is still my favorite color on the Polo. But the new Shadowblue will turn more heads for sure.

I am heading to Pune for two weeks now. Will be off TAI mostly and will miss my Polo too all this time!![sad]

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Went for another small trip to Kasauli with my college friends who had come back with me from Pune to holiday as well as watch the India-Australia test match in Mohali. They just loved the new Himalayan expressway which is built enroute Kasauli from Chandigarh. Weather was super awesome, and it was raining all along.(We went on the Day1 of the test match which got abandoned due to rains[;)]). The road looked simply majestic that day. With 6 adults on board, Polo had a little tough time going uphill. Had to downshift a little more than i would have liked, even to 1st gear at times but still it could keep up with the cars in front. Third gear with its wide bandwidth is a real boon during hill drives.
Saw a group of 3 modified Red Polo's on the highway. They were coming from the opposite direction so couldn't click pictures but it was a real treat to watch them pass. All with front and side skirtings and 16 or maybe 17inch black rims with low profile tyres and all three were Chandigarh registered. Would eagerly await to spot them again.

Mileage has taken a dip recently. My last tankful with 50% highway(hill drive) and 50% city drive gave me a Fuel efficiency of 17.6kmpl.

My car would be completing one year on April 13th and i have already started receiving calls from VW Jalandhar as well as VW Chandigarh to get my car serviced with them. Would be asking for service quotes from both and opt for one accordingly.
Even the insurance renewal would be due. I haven't taken any claims this year and my current insurance is ICICI Lombard cashless with bumper to bumper coverage. Should i renew with ICICI or go with someone else?

I have heard that ICICI lombard offers unlimited zero dep claims. why not stick to it.
Normally insurance companies keep floating offers, try a few ones like TATA AIG, bharti axa, icici lombard- these are the regular vendors for VW.

I too suggest you for ICICI lombard their service is the best and yes you will get unlimited 0 dep claims, you can also get quote from TATA AIG for comparison. ICICI will cost you few bucks more but will worth every penny i am saying this based on my experience with them.

Thanks for the suggestions Rightnow and ToughGuy. I will mostly continue with ICICI only and would take the no claim bonus discount also whatever 20% which they will offer. Let's see. Haven't taken any quotes as yet.

A distinct engine clatter noise has started coming for the past 2-3 days when the engine is running idle. As if something lose is present, the noise dies off within a minute or so. But i have noticed it like 3-4times in last few days.
Should i check the engine oil level and other oils or maybe just wait and get it sorted in the first service to be done next month? Haven't opened the bonnet to check for all this even once throughout my ownership.[embarass]

^^ Hey pretty easy to check engine oil levels yourself.

Open the bonnet first [:)]

1. Remove the dipstick and first wipe it clean using some white tissue. Do you notice clear yellowish oil or brown/black oil on the white tissue? Brown/black oil means its burnt and needs to be replaced soon.

2. Put the stick back in after thorough wipe and again remove it. The oil level must be halfway between the dotted part of the dip stick. If it is below halfway, you need a top up.

Hehe thanks for that bro. I know how its done, just have been too lazy to do it. Or maybe a little too much of blind faith on my Polo now as it hasn't troubled me at all throughout the year.:stupid: Will surely check it today itself.

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Have got a quote of Rs.13600 for the second year of insurance from ICICI Lombard. Its with zero depreciation and bumper to bumper cover. This quote is after claiming the rebate due to No claim Bonus this year. I think its a pretty decent amount or should i check with other insurance firms too?

Still undecided where to get my car serviced. VW Chandigarh or VW Jalandhar. Anyone with a feedback on the given two service stations?
