[lol][lol] you must be wondering what the hell this topic is [lol]

government might regulate how much you should eat by limiting the portion of the food you order because they are thinking lots of food is getting wasted.
according to Ram Vilas Paswan, minister of consumer affairs,
food and public distribution, said, “If a person can eat only two prawns, why should he or she be served six? If a person eats two idlis, why serve four! It's wastage of food and also money people pay for something that they don't eat.”
what the hell is this ? 5 stars have already set portions which may or may not suffice for a person. i remember going to a taj restaurant and i didn't order one expensive dish because i knew i won't be able to finish it but i was a little hungry.
i heard about a helpline number which when called come and take leftover food from any place. (from weddings and big parties) any idea which number is that ?
also please provide your suggestions regarding what we can do to avoid food wastage.

mine are below
  • also i have a habit of packing any leftovers and giving it to rickshaw pullers.
  • taking low portions multiple times at buffet or weddings to avoid wastage
(have seen many people filling their plates and dumping it in the dustbin.

more here

Food wastage is Another topic, but its none of Govt's business to poke its ugly nose and make things messy for travellers.

Hotels May reduce the size of plates, keep Same prices and Earn More money.
Many hotels already have a very small serving size and it often varies a lot. Now Hotels may reduce plate size, hence you may have to order 2 plates (and eat 1.5), whereas you would've be perfectly done with 1 in the past. That means 0.5 Wastage.

Also lot of people do not understand this- "Its not wasted as long as food is paid". If its paid means all the supply chain is already satisfied and there is no strain. Only thing remains is hygienic disposal or recycling.

P.s- These days Beggars and Cart pullers do not appreciate Leftover food(They want money only). I've seen many throwing food out (and In most unhygienic and Random fashion). If these guys have so much Ego, Why care for em at all?

This total nonsense! Why should govt poke its nose into everything? Our govt. seems to worry about everything other than governing. Most people I know and including myself, if some food if left in a restaurant, then I always take it home with me to have it the next day.

Instead of keeping a fixed portion, government should have told the restaurants to chargeback for the wasted portion.

How do you think they are gonna regulate this rule ? I don't thing it'll not be passed by president/house.

I guess minister's are focusing on imbecile things just to show how many bills have been passed this sessions. There are just not letting important major issues in our country to be stated as it doesn't help them in any way.

Actually guys, Mr Paswan has a long history of putting his foot into his mouth. With all due respect
Lets face it- almost all restaurants i know serve only 2 idlis per plate, not four. All udipi restaurants that serve lunch, serve you a little bit of each dish first. If you like, the serve more.
Food wastage is an issue. But the government wont poke its nose on how much they serve per plate. Because if they do, restauranters will gladly reduce the quantity whilst holding the price. This will drive up inflation causing people to reduce eating out and this will reduce the collection of service tax and such which is a immediate hit to their bottom line on both counts
