Ford Territory is one of 50 new vehicles being planned by Ford for launch in China by 2025. It will go on sale in the country in early 2019 and will be positioned between the EcoSport and Kuga in the company lineup.
Ford Territory, in a 7 seater configuration, will be produced at the JMC Xiao Lan plant which meets global manufacturing standards. It has been now leaked in images thanks to Facebook page FerdFanPage.
2019 Ford Territory is essentially a JMC Yusheng SM330 crossover that has been given a makeover. It gets a new front fascia and refreshed headlamps with a new Ford grille in the front. It is based on the same platform as Landwing X7 and gets a high tech SUV stance.
Interiors have been noted with a fully digital instrument cluster, Ford spec steering wheel, large touchscreen infotainment system and leather upholstery. It also receives rotary control knobs and piano black switchgear. On board technologies will include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, voice controlled infotainment system and remote unlock, remote locate and remote start feature.
2019 Ford Territory will include petrol, mild hybrid and plug in hybrid variants. It will be powered by the same engine seen on the JMC Yusheng SM330 which is a 1.5 liter GTDI turbocharged petrol engine offering 163 PS peak power and 250 Nm peak torque. It will also get a 48V mild hybrid engine with Millers Cycle petrol engine and a plug in hybrid engine, though no complete details are available as on date.
No detail has been revealed about India launch. But considering the love for SUVs here, the Territory could come here. Creta was first launched in China as ix25, and then launched in India – same could happen with the case of Ford Territory.
If launched in the country it will compete with the Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta and upcoming SUVs like Maruti Suzuki Vitara and Tata Harrier H5X. Ford Territory is of the similar size to the Creta while it will sit above the Ford EcoSport in the company’s SUV lineup.
