@ R-Owl : Hi Have been reading you thread from few days specially because have just purchased a Pre Owned VW Polo 1.2 TDi.

Love what you have done with your car. It surely looks one of the hotest Polo's that i have seen till date.

Mine is a candy white and have some plans in mind but will have to go step by step as have just started earning and cant blow all the vitamin M on it [embarass]

I have driven lot of cars thanks to my dad who is a Car crazy person and the same genes run in me.

Now i love everything about the car looks, build, quality etc but the biggest drawback the engine and the lag . I know the GT is here but almost impossible for my reach at the moment and will surely never force my family about buying it for me so am very happy with the 1.2 tdi. Lag is there but again when in the band its very punchy to drive.

Now please keep me updated on one thing that interests me the most in your thread that is the Remap. Now i am from Mumbai and there are hundreds of Diesel Performance Boxes available here but i am also aware about its drawbacks hence i do not want to install it. The Specification improvement shown by these boxes is almost equivalent to the specs of an I 20 CRDi but don't want to take the risk. The Remap on the other hand is a safe bet, but again have not met anyone or read anywhere about it except here in the forum.
So do keep me updated will surely be interested in it and i am sure that you will be the first one to do it on the forum.

Also there was one more question, it is about the exhaust. Now i have heard that the diesel car will never give any sound with a free flow or after market exhaust but listening to your video on facebook has completely change my thinking. The sound is very sporty and gives a good adrenalin push to you on hearing it.

Is it just the end can you have changed for it or is it a complete free flow exhaust system??

Welcome to the Polo family mate. I'll definitely keep you posted. Vipin and I are eagerly waiting for the remap.

Regarding the exhaust, it's just an end can.

Cheers [:)]

He he. This is called coincidence. I just logged on here to ask you whether you had any plans on buying the VW armrest and if you have, where do you plan on getting it fixed from and lo and behold, you already have installed it and put up pictures.

I am planning on buying one too. Expect a couple of PMs from me :D

Vipin and I are eagerly waiting for the remap.
If only TOT or Code6 brought out the remap sooner. Seems like the 1.2 TDI ECU is a tough nut to crack. [frustration]

Vipin

Are there any plans for Petes to introduce remap for 1.2 TDI, When I called them they said they working on it, but not sure when it'll be launched.

Pete's and the others have been trying to crack the ECU for almost a year now with no success. So I'm not holding my breath. I don't think the remap will be out anytime in the near future.

@ VipinLJ & R-Owl: I have a certain knowledge about the Boxes which harms it but what according to you'll does it harm and how is a remap better than that??
Here there are few tune up guys who do the remaps for car in mumbai?? now how will i come to know which one is good.
Also the Boxes show the specs of the car to increase from 75 Hp- 93 HP & 180Nm-220NM. Now these are specs equivalent to a Hyundai I 20 Diesel of course that has 200 cc more and one cylinder more than the Polo.
How much diff will a Normal Remap give considering specs wise not a hardcore remap but just a base or say stage 1 remap.

The Code6 and TOT guys I spoke to said around the same. Somewhere around 90bhp and 200~220 Nm. These remaps should be safe as long as you don't drive always with a wide open throttle. These remaps will help increase the acceleration and also the driveability of the car.
The boxes show the same figures but for some reason, I prefer remaps over tuning boxes after reading about both. Tuning boxes basically trick the ECU whereas remaps are...what do I say....new maps for the ECU to help it work more efficiently.

@ VipinLJ: I have just driven the car for about 400 kms till now i have no issue with the power its more than sufficient for the car of its size and have no interest in increasing it also the only issue which drives me crazy is the dead phase form 1000-2200 RPM where the car wont react even with the pedal floored so does a remap improve the power delivery and reduce the dead phase. I have heard of remaps on petrols and their effects but never heard of remaps on diesel. Just heard about the Boxes.

TB are cheaper and we have so may guys around us using it with very good feedback even more than 50k kms (both in performance and mileage part). This is one good side of it, as mentioned above black side also there which happens very rarely. Engine life will be reduced in few %s and many of us don't care about it.

Yes, the turbo lag reduces to an extent after the remap. IMO power increase in a turbo diesel engine is more compared a NA petrol one, after the remap. I could be wrong though. After remap, Vento TDI (1.6. Stock power is around 105 hp) puts out close to 140 hp where as the Polo 1.6 (stock is 105 hp) produces around 117 hp. A turbo petrol is different scene all together. Pete's has tuned a Skoda Octavia VRS which produces 370 horses!

True. TBs are cheaper. But in Polos case, I don't think they are that effective as it's only 3 cylinder. Friend had a Spider TB in his Polo and he wasn't happy with the output.
