Re: Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Test Drive Review

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 4x4AT is available in all gulf region. Difference in India is only Diesel engines. 4x4AT and 4x2AT use the same Automatic Transmission. I tried AT version of Pajero Sport. Concerned the price, how much differ from Fortuner 4x2AT?[lol]

Hi All

Sorry its been ages since I last posted. Couple of updates. My sport has completed 22K uneventful kms and it just keeps getting better each day. Installed a race chip about a month ago. I have never done mods on any of my cars but with the sport I could not resist a shot at improving the bottom end. After the race chip she has become more responsive and the turbo lag does not feel so prominent any more. I am not sure whether its an imaginary thing but she definitely feels faster in all gears.

The install itself was a short 20 minute affair with the maximum amount of time spent in trying to locate the common rail. Once that was identified it was just plug and play.

Another upgrade...I replaced the factory fitted stereo with an OEM one that comes in the Mitsubishi Dakkar that comes in other markets. It fits right into the regular slot and whats more it comes with the compass/ barometer/ altitude etc out of the box in a nice touch interface.

Will post pics soon.

Sorry for the poor quality pics...was shot in bad light.

Finally here is the RaceChip link. I installed the Ultimate version which is supposed to give a 30% improvement over stock. I don't really know how realistic that is but I plan to get it dynoed at Red Rooster in Bangalore soon. Will keep you guys posted.

RaceChip is a small microprocessor that sits between your common rail via the sensor and the ECU. As per claims made by the company the chip can increase mileage as well as power/ torque - driving style being constant after the chip is installed.

Its also tunable meaning you can vary the gains by tweaking some settings in the chip. I haven't tried it yet though and am currently running on default.

Here is the link again.

Did any one complete Test drive of 4*4 Manual and / or 4*2 Auto ... wanted to compare the new features and also understand what features are missing from previous version.

@ thinkingcoder I missed your posts fantastic stuff there with the double din, please share more details where you bought it from for how much - I was secretly hoping this comes in the facelift version but it didn't also did you have any back end interface changes or I guess this double din also connects directly to the mid interface ?

Btw race chip I looked it up but didn't have practical feedback, can you please post detailed pics of the connector and installation - please share a detailed review of differences. I remember an Internet video claiming some 217 bhp on Dyno
Also keep us posted on longer term impacts if any.

@vijayvm some differences I noted
Rear brakes go drum
Double decker mid with touchscreen
Auto Day/night internal mirror
Second row seat not sliding
Front bumper, fog and grille have visual changes
Rear tail lamps go clear
at and paddle shift off-course
Orvms with turn indicators
Tyres are Apollo ht but tread looked pretty similar to the at I have , either case you will eventually replace to better shoes
Rear bumper underhang not body colored as in anniversary edition
No dvd screens that was in limited edition only

Internal cool box is anyways a tropical aftermarket thing, some dealers are throwing it for free.

@Iron Rock, Thanks for prompt reply with details. With few gives and takes in these version changes, was ready to purchase and arranged my funds. Alas, only one important feature - "Second row seat sliding" from my personal perspective, stopped me to purchasing Pajero Sport new version. My wait continues [anger], Now my sights are set for next in horizon new Endeavor or Volvo S90...
