First Service update at 15000 kms
As I have earlier posted, I got my polo serviced at 15000kms a few days back. I have AMC and I had to pay nothing for an on-paper bill of 5.5k approx. The car is running smooth and fine,.
From 0 to 15000 kms, following are my experiences:
Issues: Only one issue of tak tak noise front passenger seats during initial days. It was corrected by workshop within no time. Since then, no noise from seats. Another stance of tak tak noise from glove box, again corrected completely.
Apart from this no issues at all. I mean NIL. Zilch in German.
Repairs/Accidents: One repair of lock brake carrier (that black thing below the bonnet which broke by a parking guy's mistake). Cost: 3.5k, did not give it as accident.
A dent on rear bumper caused by smart scooty guy who couldn't stop it on time but performed a disappearing act before I could figure out what happened. Cost: 3.6k approx, covered under insurance, paid around 500 bucks.
It’s been fairly a routine ride with my polo for past 10 months, home-office home, and sometimes I feel sorry for not taking her to long trips and not giving her proper doze of highway runs. Even in these mundane days, everytime I get behind the wheel it’s a fresh feeling, either in the morning or after office. Sometimes, I feel so anxious to get out of boring office and hit the road with my polo.
Likes and dislikes:
I would say in words of others. Over the time I have received comments from those who have had experience with my car in some or the other way, they are:
- Very nice ride, which car is this? (the very first comment which I remember vividly, given by my office seniors when we were four in the car)
- Solid (everybody says that)
- Planted and pointed, tends to be in straight line, AC is chiller (said a friend who kept my car for a day)
- Comfortable ride (office colleagues say that)
- Smooth (Dad says, after experiences of Wagon R)
- Sir your car’s paint is always shining (A VW workshop guy said that)
Of course some negative comments too:
- Makes too much of sound (friends always say)
- Where is USB plug? Where is dashboard cooler? Are these A/C knobs or gas knobs? (Friends again)
- Where is the vanity mirror? (Wife of course)
- Is it diesel? (office parking guy said initially)
- Moves like a diesel car in first gear (a colleague)
I agree to all the above comments that I have got till now. Surprisingly, I never heard anything from back passengers about the space, even after asking they say they are comfortable and alright. Fair enough.
Now, something that only I have experienced thoroughly-
Performance:
I have gotten used to the way it behaves in first and second gear such that I can now get the best of it. From my experiences over these months, I consider polo petrol to be a wonderful all rounder. The light steering and zero turbo lag for cities coupled with stability, stiffer steering feel, and stiff suspensions for highways make it a great all rounder, in contrast to polo being only known as a highway star.
I can tell you that I initially when I used to take her to highways, I would go crazy and do all kinds of zig zag and darting between other vehicles. I am sure others would have found me a spoilt brat out of my mind under influence of something really toxic. I couldn't help but admire its capability to perform at higher speeds, revv happy nature and that engine note. Basically, my definition of a small car was something like - an affordable, car like thing, manufactured for a common man's commute, designed for city, and scary at high speeds. I never thought something without boot (barring SUVs) is a car, I thought its just a solution or an arrangement for a sedan. Now, I am happy that my myths were only myths not the truth.
(Ahh forgot to mention- those looking for 'rpm', '0-100 in x secs' sort of ownership language, I haven't learnt it yet. I need some more time)
As noob as I may sound, but yes I had very few expectations from a hatch and I thought this so called German thing would just be like another small car. Thankfully, its way ahead than one can guess.
The connection: I love the way these machines connect with us in spite of having no soul literally. Driving this car is fun, an indulgence, so much so that one who is driving this car would think about the car most of the times. The one behind the wheel would admire how it just negotiated the pothole, how it took over that vehicle behind, how would it perform if I split between these two cars ahead me, should I speed up more, and more. I have driven over 15000 kms, and till today I can't help to get over the feeling of being connected with the car.
I have believed that a machine like a stereo does have a 'soul'. Now I believe a car also has a soul.
Cars are beautiful too:
