Mahindra has introduced the RWD (rear wheel drive) version of the Thar in the Indian market today for a starting introductory price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Mahindra had introduced the current second generation Thar in the 4WD (four-wheel drive) version back in August 2020. The Thar was well received by the Indian audience and taking the journey of the 2nd-gen Thar forward the company has introduced a more affordable RWD version of the Thar for Rs 9.99 lakh. Deliveries for the same will begin from January 14th 2023.

The RWD version of the Thar will provide a more affordable lifestyle vehicle option for customers who aren’t hardcore off road enthusiasts and want the ownership experience of Thar as a lifestyle vehicle at a more affordable price.

Slotted below the 4X4 version the RWD Thar has the potential to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos as currently there is no vehicle in the segment that could compete with the Thar, however it is being speculated that Maruti Suzuki might introduce the Jimny to compete with the Thar in the Indian market.
