My Bajaj CT 110 which I'd bought in 2019 has served me well. But, it is very low on torque and power. So, I'm on the lookout for a motorcycle again. I have shortlisted TVS Ronin and RE Hunter. (hope they are good choices!) Visited both the showrooms and got the quotes as below:

TVS Ronin TD
Ex Showroom Price. : 1,68,950
Insurance+Road Tax
+ Registration : 35,750
Mand. Fttg Charges. : 1,515
On Road Price : 2,06,215

RE Hunter Dapper White
Ex Showroom Price : 1,69,656
Insurance : 10,666
Road Tax+Regn : 21,334
On Road Price : 2,01,656

I think the TVS dealer is overcharging. Road tax is 12% of ex-showroom price. And for RE Hunter, it is coming out ok. But for Ronin, if we plug in the same 12% road tax and an insurance amount of around Rs 10,500, that still leaves around Rs 5,000, which is apparently 'registration charges'. Beyond this, they also have that Rs 1,515 as 'mandatory fitting charges'. And, they wanted Rs 500 as 'RTO charges' extra.

This makes me mad. My first choice is Ronin (though it is only 225 cc, it is 20 kg lighter than Hunter - i prefer a lighter bike - and has lots of bells and whistles). But I may be forced to go with Hunter because the TVS dealer is overcharging.

I would like to hear your opinion, folks. What's your take?

Talk to your dealer about this and tell them that this may become a reason for going for other bike. This practice is common across India barring some places. Only way out is that govt should bring in some system under BH series whereas all cars will come pre-registered from factory and only thing the customer/buyer will do is online KYC to put a name against a car.

Ashikawa: Thank you. Yes, I'll speak with the dealer. If they aren't agreeing to reduce the price, I'll write to TVS themselves. Let's see what happens.

Many dealers still trying to take some good amount as ''RTO charges'' which is unaccounted money which these guys earn. You will not get any specific receipt for this amount. Easy money making!

Inform TVS in writing that you have shortlisted this particular bike but not willing to proceed because of the dealers behaviour by charging more than what the RTO and insurance amount are supposed to be. I don't think TVS can do much with dealers in such circumstances but you can try it - may get some discount at the end of the day.

Is there any other TVS dealer near your place or even 50/60kms away from your place? You can ask their quote and if the numbers working fine then you can buy from the that dealer?

Narrk: Yes, I understand there can be some unaccounted fees which they claim to be bribe to RTO. In the case of RE Hunter's quote, it comes to Rs 975. This is how I worked it out. From their quote, Road Tax + Regn Fees is Rs 21,334. 12% of Ex-Showroom price of Rs 1,69,656 is Road Tax. Which comes to Rs 20,359. So the remaining 21,334 - 20,359 = 975 is the Regn Fee.

Let's take the case of TVS Ronin TD. 12% of 1,68,950 is Rs 20,274. Let's take the insurance as Rs 10,500. (closer to the Rs 10,666 quoted for Hunter). So, the Regn Fee comes to 35,750 - (20,274 + 10,500) = Rs 4,976! So, there is a Rs 4,000 which is unaccounted for. In fact, when I checked online for new TVS Ronin insurance, the quote ranged from Rs 8,000 to Rs 9,500 only.

I'll check with the dealer again about this huge discrepancy. And also, as you said, I'll check with the next nearest TVS dealers too. Thank you!
