My Amby's restoration is Work in progress. Please check the below thread for details.
My HM Ambassador Grand (2011): Restoration
Now I want to decide ICE setup.

Condition: My BIL will be using the car for occasional trips (read maintaining without keeping idle), for next couple of years mostly. He is not an audiophile. So basic setup will be fine (for now). Later I might upgrade , when i gets my hands on.

I am also not extreme audiophile, but will prefer to listen to crisp music, without too much thumpy Bass or Nerve chilling trouble.

Car : HM Ambassador Grand 2011
Budget : 10~15K
ICE Type (Full Setup, Head Unit etc.) : 1 DIN HU+ Front COmp & Rear Oval Coaxial (Addtional 6.5 Coax in rear doors?? Advice needed.)
Place of Installation : Coimbatore/ Erode, TN.
Preferred Brands : Pioneer/ JVC / Kenwood? Sony? Not sure about current 1DIN availabilty, haven't following IN market recently. Flac/MP3/AAC through USB preferred.
Preferred Music Genre : No specific. Mix of all. My collections are from 60-70's BW songs to late 2010s Tamil songs, selective recent tamil/tel/Hindi songs. Few english songs like MJ/Jlo/Britney.
Existing Audio Setup (If Any) : Consider None. Existing JVC player & speakers can be straightaway thrown to bin.

Misc Details / Specific Questions:

1. Can I Install HU+Front door Comp+rear door -coax & tray area Co-ax together without amp, for time being? Can HU take it?
2. Advisable to make cutout in steel tray area, now itself, for future upgrade? I dont want to lose my boot space because of sub & amp.
3. I see,on Sun Enterprises (CBE) installs always use alpine components & co-axials are they good? Is JBL/Asgate/Infinity available in physical stores, I see only very limited options in online (amazon)? Preferalby avoiding online purchase, since I cannot verify in person.
4. My Amby mechanic is against using damping sheets, as very easy to prone to water damage in Amby, will cause more rust problems inside doors.

FYI Last ICE setup I made after a lot of research, is for my brother's swift around in 2013, with Alpine CD/BT 1DIN HU / Rockford Asgate comps & Coaxials without sub.
This gives an idea, how updated I am.

Please share your valuable inputs & links, model preferences. All suggestions/advice are welcome.

Thank you for visiting my thread : Guide: All About Car Audio, Android Units, DSP & Buyer Upgrade Basics!

This is My Opinion:
  • Single DIN has 4 channel output (50wx4), it is better to limit with two front components and two oval coaxial at parcel tray.
This is one of the best set up for your limited budget: Sony DSX-A110U Car Stereo USB/AUX/FM LINK 1 LINK 2
Sony Car 2 Way XS-GS1621C Component Car Speaker LINK
Sony Xs-Fb693E 420W Wired Coaxial Woofer - Black LINK
  • Avoid as far as possible fiddling with metal sheets on - old or patched / welded sheets as that leads to corrosion.
  • AlPINE brand is good only at the higher range series.
  • True, as it is a very old metal sheet. Good grade Damping sheets will not cause but improper pasting with air pockets (or) water logging/seepage through door panels might cause the issue.
Please check the prices with reliable local shops for original ones and decide.

You can examine the possibility of hand painting by using 3M anti corrosive rubber paint (Generally used for under chassis) atleast in the speaker mounting zone, that also helps as sound damping to some extent.
