Hyundai Ioniq 5 unveiled in India

Hyundai has unveiled the India-spec Ioniq 5 electric SUV. The Ioniq 5 is the first of the six BEVs based on the E-GMP platform to be introduced in India till 2028 for which the Korean automaker has announced an investment of 4,000 crore. Hyundai has also commenced bookings for the car at the brand’s website for Rs 1 lakh.

Commenting on the announcement, Unsoo Kim, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., said, “Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a grand statement of conscious consumerism. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 debuts a unique exterior that blends clean and sharp lines. It measures 4,635mm in length, 1,890mm in width and 1,625mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,000mm. The front carries the Parametric Pixel LED headlamps, with the pixel design carried over to the front bumper. It also comes with an active air flap, which improves aerodynamic efficiency when closed and provides ventilation when open. It rides on 20-inch alloy wheels with parametric design meant to maximise aerodynamic efficiency. The rear gets LED taillamps with the signature pixel design.

The absence of mechanical parts means that the Ioniq 5 comes with a flat floor, which Hyundai has utilised to create a very spacious an futuristic cabin layout. It comes with eco-processed seat upholstery, a magnetic dashboard, a sliding central console with 140mm of travel, sliding glove box and many more innovative features. The electric SUV also comes loaded with tech, there is a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, with the systems paired to premium sound system from Bose. It also comes with level 2 ADAS features.

The India-spec Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes with a rear-mounted electric motor which produces 217bhp and 350Nm of torque. This motor draws power from a 72.6kWh battery pack which has been placed in the floor between the front and the rear axles for weight balance. Hyundai claims an ARAI certified range of 631km. The battery can be charged via a 350kW DC fast charger which takes 18 minutes to fill it up from 10 to 80 per cent. The car also supports V2L (vehicle to load), which allows the battery to be used to power other electrical appliances.
