Hi guys, I am a new Grand i10 sport owner. Got my car delivered in last week of Feb 2015. I have had a good time driving it for 4 months. Last weekend of July, I drove to lonavala on Sat and returned the same day. While cleaning the car on Sunday, I reversed car to park at other place when suddenly left passenger side tyre bursted on the inner side of the wheel. On changing to the Stephanie wheel I observed huge amount of rust on the disc brakes suspension. Check the images.

HASS said rusting is normal & good year guy said no mfg defect in tyre so my tyre claim was rejected.

I'm posting from my mobile, didn't get any option to upload images hence the imgur links.

Help me out fellow Grand users on both the issue. My car is driven just 1200km as of today

I think the rusting is normal. It happens especially to these parts. I read somehwere these are made of cast iron so rusting is normal. But for your own peice of mind ask the service center yo use sand paper and remove the rust. Ask him to do it for free.

About the tyre, are you sure that it didn't cut because of any rock or even glass? Because these type of cuts happens by the edge of the stones. Try to pursuade him and again these type of claims are 50-50 chances.

Hi, about the rusting, even the SC guy said it's normal however I am worried as the car is just 4 months old & my friends said that even their 3 - 4 yr old car dnt have this much of rusting. SC said during 2nd service, the yest will be cleaned.

My sport has 4 tubeless Goodyear tyres and the Stephanie is regular tube Goodyear tyre, is this an issue or everyone has the same thing? I am looking to buy a new Bridgestone or Michelin tubeless tyre.

Is this set up okay? 3 Goodyear tubeless tyre + 1 Bridgestone / Michelin tyre

I have seen many threads on the same and many different cars had these. And btw is yours a 2014 model ? Sometimes if the car is kept at the stockyard , there will be rust formation.

Did you put a tube yourself ? It's odd that it came with a tube from hyundai, do tell.

If it came with a tube , confirm from a tyre shop if the model is tube type or not. If not then ask him to check for punctures without the tube. Again it feels fishy if 1 tyre is tube type.

And yeah no problem in using a different brand on 1 tyre but make sure the tyre specs are the same. Will suggest you to try yokohama earth 1. I use them in 2 of my cars and they are really good. Cheaper than michelin xm2.

Hi, thanks for the help. My car is a mid Jan 2015 production.

I will check the Yokohama tyres you mentioned.

Hey guys I have a question.

I have noticed that while driving my car (grand i10) at 130 and above on empty stretches there is a slight vibration or bounciness. Its not bad but till 120 its perfectly fine and when it comes to 130 i feel the car isnt as flat and holding the road as it does at 120 and below. has anyone else faced this problem? I have stock good year 165/65 R14 tyres.

Never touched the speed with my grand i10 but its ok till 120 and it feels planted. May be because of the Indian roads as they are not perfectly plane. I have observed that the ride compared to cement road is not smooth as tar road. I am using the stock Apollo amazer 4g. What was the tyre air pressure before the ride? I usually keep 37 with nitrogen.

I didnt check the air pressure before driving. That's one blunder I made however ive noticed this even when ive checked the air pressure. I havent filled nitrogen till now just thinking that if i have a puncture on a highway i may not find a nitrogen filling station easily.i keep all 4 tyres at 33psi. I dont think its the road cz i was on NH1 and it seems that road can take higher speeds easily. The slight bounciness vertically i feel comes as i touch 130 on the speedo. its at a very specific place that it starts. I hope its not the case of grand's chasis not being able to handle such speeds. That would be sad cz ive touched 130 on eon without such vibrations. Another thing, when the car touches 130 the steering becomes really light. At 120 its perfectly weighed and stable and you'd think that it can easily be pushed to 140+ seeing how well its doing at 120.but at around 127 128 something all of a sudden happens and the steering becomes really light. Its sad that hyundai still cant get their handling right. I used to be a very loyal hyundai fan however that seems to be changing specially due to 2 major reasons:
1. Hyundai thinks safety (airbags, abs) are a luxury feature and offer them on higher trims of the car. I dont care about auto folding mirrors, push start button etc. just give atleast dual front airbags, show that you care for your customer not just trying to get more market share. I respect VW for having dual airbags in their base model as well.
2. Why cant hyundai get the steering and handling right is beyond my understanding. What the point of 1.6 1.8L engines when they chasis/suspension/steering cant compliment it. Just give a 1.0 engine so that the car goes till 120 but not more cz its not gona be able to handle it. atleast with a smaller engine you'd get more fuel efficiency which btw hyundai is not leading at either.

Wana take a guess on what my next car's gona be? HINT: it will still be a hatch.

I will have to check my ride at 130 [confused]. Try nitrogen its really good, you will notice the difference immediately in every sense. I think 33 is very less because the door trim says front 33 and rear 36 with 2 passengers. I have heard/read that its better to keep 1to2 psi more than the manufacture's recommendation.
Its true that Hyundai has the handling issue and there is no match with Maruti in this case. [frustration]
I agree safety is of the utmost importance.

You dont need to check your ride at 130 [;)]. Not promoting overspeeding at all. Yea i would like nitrogen however a puncture on a highway is stopping me from it. when the car runs at high speed for a few hours the air pressure increases due to the heat of the tyre and in some cases leads to bursting of the tyre which would be really a bad situation at those speeds hence atleast on highways filling 1-2 psi more may not be the best idea i think. In city its a different case, it might even increase fuel efficiency and with nitrogen the pressure wont change cz its an inert gas and wont expand with heat.
Well not the jazz (dont like designs of honda cars inside out), I'd get one of the VW GT's however not anytime soon although my bro is planning to get so gona enjoy his ride for now. Ive attached a pic that says that with 3 passengers the air in all 4 tyres should be 33 psi. check it out.

I will check my car's door trim . You need not to work about nitrogen, you can replace/mix nitrogen with air without any problem as air is a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen where 70% is nitrogen. By the way polo is a good choice even I love driving it.

Hi, I have a grand i10 sports and I am planning of replacing the 14" rim with 15" alloy. I want to get a little more ground clearance and want to fill in the gap between the body and the tire so what size tyres will be appropriate with the 15" alloys fitted in grand i10. I am thinking of 185/65/15R. I am a fairly new driver so would appreciate if someone here can assist me. will changing the Rim & tire size affect Fuel efficiency? Thanks in advance

Hi Kevi

Those 14 inch wheels do look bad and 15 inch alloys would look much better. However there's more to it than fuel efficiency. While upsizing the total difference between the current tyre wheel combo and the one you intend to put shoulnt be more than 3% and it will effect your tachometer and speedometer. With a upsized tyre technically the speedometer should be calibrated again as well to match the increased diameter of the wheel however this is not very common. Following is a tyre calculator link: Tyre Upsizing, Tyre Upsizing Calculator, Tyre Upgrade, Upgrading tyres, Michelin Tyre dealer in chennai, Authorised Michelin Tyre dealer in chennai, Michelin India, Michelin Tyres, tyrestore chennai

Use this to check which tyre alloy combo will be with the 3% difference range. With 15 inch wheel I think you may have to decrease the tyre's sidewall to keep it within 3% or close to it. Good luck.
