Re: My Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) Petrol Ownership Review

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a Grand i10 Asta Automatic. Many recommend a tyre upgrade for highway travel. I have already spoken to a dealership for Yoko S Drive 185/60/R14 tyres ... but i have some questions ..
1. Is it recommended that stock alloys be also changed, or i can continue using the stock alloys with Yoko 185/60/R14 tyres
2. Any compatibility issues using stock alloys for 165/65/R14 tyres with 185/60/R14 tyres?

Thanks for your help in advance :)

I do highway runs once every 2-3 months on stock tyres and haven't found them inadequate.(120+ kmph I have good year. The only gripe I have with them is that they make significant road noise while running on high speeds. If you are sure about the upgrade I would recommend michelin xm2 silent tyres. My brother got it on his eon and there is a significant difference. They actually are SILENT.

Thanks Jonathan7s. After going through a lot of posts, I am currently shelving the decision of upgrading the tyres. Since my usage will be mostly limited to city with highway runs every 3-4months, i will revisit if required ...

Light up nearby area very well.

IMG_20150103_192536901.jpg

Also fitted ring shaped LEDs, connected with parking, pretty bright
IMG_20150103_193126146.jpg

I have ran into one issue though, the mechanic connected the DRL wire to Fusebox as given in the pic, In our car even after the ignition is off, current flow through that fuse and after 90 secs DRLs switch off (Mistakenly they are like a come home light now). Friends please suggest some other wiring mechanism to correct this.

Hi Anuj

The drls sure look good and you got a good deal from ebay as well. I have fixed the same kind of drls on my car as well and I have also connected the white wire to the parking light which dims the drls to 50% when the parking light is turned on. My mechanic also connected one wire to the fuse box however the drls turn off immediately when i turn off the ignition. There is no delay whatsoever. I would suggest you take the car back to your mechanic and have him check it.

Re: My Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) Petrol Ownership Review

Hi everyone,

I have been facing a constant problem in maintaining the suitable tyre pressure of 33 in my Grand i10. The front left tyre reduces to around 28 and the right tyre to as low as 22 within a span of two to three days. I had my tyres checked for any puncture or crack, there weren't any. Also, the car tends to go to the right side very slowly - I guess I have to check the wheel alignment - will do it in my second service due next month.

Has anyone faced similar issues? How often do you check your tyre pressure and fill up?

Hi Ayan, Are you using normal air in Tyre or Nitrogen? Normal Air makes the Tyre hot when car is driven hence there is decrease in air pressure. But, if you use Nitrogen then I am sure your car's issue can be resolved as it keeps the Tyre cool and loss of air pressure is not so drastic.

2nd thing, it is highly likely, the air inflation machine is faulty so try out some other petrol station for the same or when you go for wheel alignment, get the air filled from that outlet itself and check it buddy.

Re: My Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) Petrol Ownership Review

About a one and half months back, I had Nitrogen filled up. However within a week the pressure was down and had been filling up normal air ever since. I fill up normal air from two to three different petrol pumps on my way to/from office. Nitrogen is not available easily at the petrol pumps, also its expensive - charges around 200/- certainly not a feasible option if I need to fill up every week.

This problem of frequent low air pressure in the front tyres (especially the front right) is being faced for many months now. Not sure if tyres needs to be changed completely. The front right tyre was changed with the extra tyre a few months back after the original had a puncture.

Most of my driving is on bumpy roads, roads repaired with stonechips poking out, rough roads - does these heavily impact the tyre losing out its air pressure so frequently? If so, why just the front tyres.

How often do you face situations to correct the air pressure - once a week? once in two weeks?

Hi Akash, while your observation that, normal air makes tyre hot when driven, is right. The tyre pressure actually increases if you check it post a drive compared to the actual cold inflation pressure. That is the reason for many tyre burst cases.

About a one and half months back,...
Hi Ayan, whatever you use, either nitrogen or compressed air, pressures should not generally drop to such low levels as 22, its a classic case of leak. A quick drop to 27-28 might indicate a weak spot in the tyre. Please get it checked with a specialist.
He might suggest to apply a coating inside tyre to avoid leakage and the right tyre might have a small puncture.

Thanks Arvin. I did have the tyres checked by the roadside tyre repair guys, they put the tyre in those water tubs to check for leaks, they didn't find any.

By tyre specialist, can you suggest some? Where would I find them?

I would suggest you to start with authorized tyre shop, if yours is stock tyres of grand, then it is usually Goodyear, I guess. Also try to get the alloys checked up once in HASS.

Ayan84@

there are 2 chances.

1) Either the tire has puncture or leak in valve or may be small bent in disc that makes Air loss.

or
2) There may be any jam/bent in front disc brakes. that makes the wheel hot and Air loss. Please check your front tire & disc getting hot after some Km running.
