Re: Hyundai Fluidic Verna 1.6 Sx VTVT Carbon Grey 2013 model

Congracts,I also faced a similar dilemma few months back but since performance was the priority, got a city. Anyways verna is also a great car. Any reason why you did not consider fiesta?
City was a great choice buddy! I love the Japanese cars :P

But the reasons for me opting Verna over City on technical front was that City still has SoHC and on a 4 inline 16valve I wanted to have a DoHC for better precision on engine functionality and performance.

Why not a Fiesta - well styling was good but the car looked out of shape from the rear, looks like the rear portion of the car was smaller than the overall dynamics of the front and side lines. Secondly, Ford cars tend to have low resale and technically tend to lose out on the faulty parts followed by hefty repairs.

I thought that I should also be discussing on 3 not so useful or needs improvement features of Verna, so here we go

1. Cooled glove box - Well the a/c vent is not all that great. Expect moderate cooling and not a chiller. Possibly on long drives and with low temperatures set in the car, glove box can be more efficient.

2. Tilt steering - Tilt alone is good for height adjustment and ample tilt is allowed here, should also incorporate telescopic feature for Seat front back sliding adjustments.

3. SDVC - I tried to feel the difference on the music volume but I don't think it works or may be the volume levels are altered minutely that its not even noticeable. I doubt if at all it works. SDVC is Speed dependent volume control. I have experienced the same in Civic and there you can definitely feel it.

Agreed DoHC is better but city has better valve timing management compared to vvt. Hence its quicker.Anyways verna is better everywhere else apart here.
Yeah the fords rear looks weird.
BTW,cheers,another jap fan here.

Re: Hyundai Fluidic Verna 1.6 Sx VTVT Carbon Grey 2013 model

One month and 1000 km review

Trust me can't believe that one month has passed since we brought her home :-) memories still are fresh and the smell of new car remains there still!!! So 1000 Kms driven and at an average of 12.1 KMPL in Mumbai is not bad I would say. I do try to maintain the KMPL gauge (as highlighted in top 3 features in my earlier post) at around 15 and above, probably I could achieve 12.1 in city. The whole drive has been from Thane to places like Siddhi Vinayak temple, Airport, Town side like worli, colaba, Juhu, Andheri and Chembur. Some relatives also came so frequent visits to airport were also made. My inputs on such diverse driving locations

1. Perfect seating posture and amazingly smooth steering wheel makes coty driving so comfortable
2. Smooth and silent cabin makes driving more pleasurable
3. Verna has just the right curves which are not bulging and hence gives good approximation on the car width length etc
4. A/C is great too and cools quickly but can be annoying at high fan speeds
5. Rear parking camera is good too, has well calibrated estimation marks
6. Pick up is good even with full load, could very well accommodate 5 adults
7. Boot space is flat and fully practical (airport visits helped me understand how beneficial boot space can be to carry as much luggage :-)

Some little disappointments

1. Headlights are not very bright, considering upgrading to high lux levels
2. Horns are mild, might go for upgrades but I assume mildness is due to quiet cabin and dampness created thus
3. Cooled glove box is not really very practical unless driving for hours and AC is at low levels

Rest all seems perfect. No issue with suspension, transmission. Car runs like butter smooth :-)

Will post next review post service. Also have ordered Chrome gear knob. Should get fixed during service itself.

Cheers!!!

Service quality and washing needs to improve for Hyundai!!! A disappointing first service appointment. Points noticed

1. No proper reception at reception area, Maruti is way more proactive.
2. Delayed responses and deliveries even with prior appointments
3. Customer lounge with make shift arrangements, No tea, Spider webs and Spiders
4. Cars driver very rash, they even scratched one car that had come for service
5. Washing below average, dirty clothes used to dry the car
6. Dry water droplet marks left on all glasses, a thin layer of white substance could be seen on all glasses
7. Extensive use of polish etc on dashboard, an overkill
8. Non delivery of gear knob, ordered like 45 days back
9. 2 hour car service delivery is a hoax with them it seems

Car is running perfect. Service advisor was surprised to see low profile Tyres from Bridgestone and asked if I got those fitted later but I assume the same Tyres come in all Verna SX models. I will check and put the tyre size. Weirdos!!!! But not a very positive rating to this dealership! They need to understand that if any one is coming for first time or even if repeated times service should be proper. After sales matter a lot and was one of the positives that I always had heard about Hyundai but yet to experience. :-)

Today while starting the car and reversing, heard a "tok" noise from the tyres and when car started rolling, heard some scrubbing noise. I thought of taking it to the Hyundai service center immediately to make sure everything was fine. Service Adviser told me that this was nothing new and typically in rains when we keep cars parked with handbrake on, at times due to water and moisture, the brake shoes tend to stick on to the discs. So nothing to worry. Thought of putting it so that no one of you get worried as I was today!

Finally got the seat covers installed today from this shop in Mulund Mumbai. I had got my Skin type covers installed from this same vendor for my swift 3 years back. After evaluating Orchis and Stanleys of Mumbai, I just had to go back to this guy again as the kind of fitting, material and pricing he was offering no one could give the same. See the pics attached and I will put some new ones in the morning.

That tok noise is normal as the adviser told you.

About the pick up, I too have a 1.6 vtvt and with 5 adults on hilly area the pick up was pathetic. I was so disappointed and my friends teased me everytime I shifted to first gear while going uphill. My i10 climbs better.

Anyways seat covers looks neat.[thumbsup]

See the material used by them - High quality Marigold type art leather with a high quality foam for padding and extra comfort. The art leather has foam type layer that reduces the tendency of it getting heated when parked in Sun. See the type of hooks and material they use to stitch and bind the seat covers. More day light pics soon

Nice seat covers. How much did it cost to you? Can you share the address of the shop? Does other varieties available at the shop?
Hey,

Yes, he has designs available. I have kept it simple and single color as this looks the most elegant IMHO. This guy is in Mulund West, Sarvodaya Nagar close to Saraswat bank. There is this whole Car market, the guy is located on the left side if you go towards Mulund from Nahur. Shop name is Thambi Seat Covers. I have got the Art leather with padding under it and he puts foam also. These were quoted for 7500 but I paid 6000. I had negotiated in 6500 but I paid 500 less since he knows me for 4 years now. The same stuff is available at Orchis for 9900. Marigold/Polynappa is the equivalent there.

The best part was that he opened the center console and rear arm rest completely to install these. You have to remove the original from there since thickness might create an issue, hence original fabric needs to be removed completely and is logically the correct way to install.

Also get single nylon stitching done on the insides. Double stitching should be only for outsides. Single stitches require skill and are unique for leather upholstery. Do let me know how it went.

What had been irritating me were the Car floor mats. The ones I have were so light and these kept slipping while driving. I had been doing some research online for these. I have Packy Poda black mats in my Swift so thought of those but then for verna those wont look great. Hence thought of exploring options for 3D mats. Now 3D brand itself is very costly. It was in a range of 5000+ everywhere for Verna. I came across Star brand that also makes 3D mats and are priced around 2800-3200. And then I saw Koizer bucket car mats for Verna on Snapdeal.

I did some research online and people said it was worth every buck spent. Finally ordered Koizer Bucket style car mats. I was confused if should go for black or beige but Contrast will stand out pretty well. I had read on many forums that Black mats tend to last longer and dont appear too dirty as compared to Beige. Also too much of beige was getting on my nerves...lol...I will put the images soon. Sample image is attached. It is available online on Snapdeal for 1750 but I got these for 1550 with 200 off coupon I had.
