Mercedes-AMG has introduced a striking special edition of the AMG GT coupe amidst its challenging 2024 Formula One season.

Dubbed the 'Motorsport Collectors Edition', this exclusive variant is limited to just 200 units globally, boasting a unique hand-painted livery that draws inspiration from the AMG Petronas F1 team's colours.

This limited-edition sports car is based on the AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+, the track-focused yet road-legal model introduced earlier this year.

Mercedes' decision to develop this vehicle highlights the brand's sporting spirit despite being overshadowed by rivals McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari this season. The livery of this special edition also mirrors the Petronas-sponsored F1 cars, a tribute to last season where the team still managed to secure second place, trailing behind Red Bull.

Sporting an Obsidian Black metallic base, the vehicle features hand-painted stars on its rear and striking Petronas aquamarine accents.

These almost neon-like details emphasise key design elements such as the side window graphics, sills and the 21-inch wheel rims.

The AMG Nite Package further enhances the vehicle's stealthy appearance by replacing chrome trim with blacked-out elements.

Inside, the Petronas theme continues with illuminated door sills, ambient lighting and sports seats upholstered in a blend of Nappa leather and microfiber cloth. The carbon brake system's callipers also receive a splash of the iconic aquamarine hue.

Despite its F1-inspired makeover, the Motorsport Collectors Edition retains the same powertrain as the GT 63 Pro.

Under the bonnet, the 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine produces an impressive 450kW, eclipsing the standard GT 63 4Matic+ by 20kW. This powerhouse enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.2 seconds and achieve a top speed of 317km/h.

Mercedes-AMG has yet to announce the price for this exclusive model or whether any units have already been reserved. However, expectations suggest a starting price of at least £180,000 (around NZ$380,000).

This limited-run model caters to both F1 enthusiasts and collectors who appreciate the intersection of motorsport heritage and high-performance engineering.
