Top 5 Priorities: Reliability, Comfort, Performance, Parts availability, cost of ownership
Purpose Type: Regular commute, Long rides
Bodystyle Type: Sports Tourer
My Duke 390 have been serving me well for the past 8 years of ownership. But it has always been a dream to own an inline 4 sports bike. I am highly convinced to only consider a Japanese bike from my experiences from my own vehicles and that of people I know. Sure they may lack the so called character of a European vehicle, but at least they are dependable and runs like a clock forever with the right maintenance.
Of all things considered, I ended up with Honda CBR 650 as it checked all my requirements. The new bike costs close to 12.5L where I live. I maybe able to reduce it a bit by making it BH reg.
2024 CBR 650R
But, given the fact that I don't do a lot of touring these days and it's mostly limited to just one or two under 1000km rides a year, it makes me question whether it makes sense or not.
But, at the end of the day decisions about buying automobiles are always heart over head decisions. Therefore, to be in a middle ground, I have decided to get a pre owned Honda CBR 650F for about 5L.
2016 CBR 650F
Does it make sense to buy a 8 or 9 year old CBR which is what I am able to find in my budget? It is a BS3 vehicle, so there is a concern on when they would get banned as well. Or should I use the 5L to get a new bike which is not an inline 4 but will be more sensible?
As of today, R3 and Ninja 300 are the only other vehicles available under this budget. I have ridden R3 and it felt like a normal bike after riding the 390 and so I don't consider it an upgrade. The ninja is even slower.
