This was just a sudden planned trip in my Tata Zest.
The men:
The mission: (Coimbatore-dhimbam ghat-Bandipur-Ooty-Mysore-Bangalore)
The machine:
Planned on Dec 24: Dec 25 morning : I did a full tank and checked the tyre pressure.
Started Morning around 8am from Coimbatore Via dhimbam ghat.
Had food in one of the famous Tamil nadu resturant Saravana Bhavan.
This was the first time I went to Saravana Bhavan and I liked the food as well as the ambience.
We were out of the city by 8.30 AM nd the car was zooming.
We reached the dhimbam ghat by 9.20 AM.
The roads were just awesome for a perfect ride!
Picture speaks the rest:
We reached the TN border and gate of Madhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary. Straight road goes to Ooty.
We turned left on a single track bridge.
This is the Ooty road via Masinagudi and 30km less than the former, this route has dense jungle. Within no time we were passing Mavanalla which the foothills of Nilgiris (just before the famous 36hairpin climb).
There are lots of resorts there. Probably lots of people come down there.
Had a cup off coffee at Ooty. Perfect for the cold weather!
The Steep Climb:
We hit the 36 hairpin climb. This was really an endurance test for my car with a good load. It was the steepest I have encountered in my life. I had to engage first quit often. It was like 36 Hairpins and 14km and you are in Ooty.
Must see places in ooty are: Botanical Garden, Avalanche Lake, Tea factory, Carrot Farms, Rose Garden and doddabetta peak.
Also saw a wild elephant on the road side fearsome!
Some pics at Ooty:
Return:
Route: Ooty – Masinagudi – Bandipur – Mysore
We also stopped at the hairpin 30 where there is a valley view where one can spot wild bisons and deers. We also stopped there.
Total distance Home to Home: 630 KM.
Fuel Mileage: 19.5 including hills
No tolls in this route
Overall a superb drive and enjoyed the green nature a lot. Ooty is an awesome place to go with family or friends.
Finally thanks to My Best as it gave no issues during the ride and for the ease of ride!!
Arjun MP Singing off.
Will be back with new trip and new travelogue soon!!
