Bharat NCAP has been officially introduced in India. The norms will come into effect from 1st October 2023, making India the fifth nation in the world to have its own crash-test programme.
The programme will rate vehicles in M1 category between 1 – 5 stars, covering three areas: Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection and Fitment of Safety Assist Technologies.
The model is nominated by the manufacturer, the base variant unit of which is then picked by Bharat NCAP through random sampling. Bharat NCAP has already received over 30 requests so far.
