Ather Energy has introduced the all-new Ather 450S scooter alongside updated versions of their flagship Ather 450X models. The company in a move to cater to a wider audience and extend its influence in the electric mobility segment, has launched the Ather 450S, priced at Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom), the Ather 450S has taken the spotlight as the latest addition to the Ather lineup and has also become the most affordable scooter in the lineup. Simultaneously, the brand has also introduced revamped iterations of the popular Ather 450X, which now comes with an enhanced set of features and powertrain updates. The Ather 450X variants, known as Core and Pro, have been unveiled at Rs 1.37 lakh and Rs 1.52 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.
Diving into the details of the Ather 450S, this electric scooter retains the signature Ather design ethos, boasting the same curvy front cowl, LED headlamp, and sleek LED taillight as its sibling, the Ather 450X. Although visually similar, the 450S introduces subtle differentiators, such as a joystick-equipped switchgear and a non-touch LCD display in place of the premium touchscreen instrument cluster found on the 450X. This cost-effective measure not only reduces the scooter’s price tag but also contributes to making electric mobility more accessible.
Underneath the elegant design lies a powerful belt-drive motor that produces a peak power of 7.24 bhp and a torque of 22 Nm. This impressive performance allows the Ather 450S to reach a top speed of 90 kmph in Sport mode, while Eco and Ride modes offer slightly reduced speeds. The scooter’s battery, a 2.9 kWh lithium-ion unit, offers a range of up to 115 km on a single charge, although real-world usage may yield a practical range of around 90 km in favorable conditions and Eco mode.
Delving deeper into the Ather 450X variants, the Core and Pro models both boast the iconic Ather design language, with updates centered around technology and powertrain. These models continue to sport a 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering consistent power and torque figures of 8.58 bhp and 26 Nm respectively. The Ather 450X models also showcase the renowned Deep View Display, offering a larger-than-average LCD panel with an impressive 1000:1 contrast ratio. The Pro variant particularly remains faithful to its premium status, featuring advanced navigation and performance enhancements.
Braking on all three models is facilitated by disc brakes on both front and rear wheels, coupled with a Combi Braking System (CBS) for efficient and safe stopping power. It’s worth noting that the Ather 450S currently lacks ABS but is slated to receive the feature in future iterations. Another notable safety feature on the Ather 450S is its fall-safe mechanism, similar to the concept introduced in Apple’s iPhone 14, wherein a significant impact triggers an automatic emergency call option to a pre-set contact.
