Suzuki has launched the fourth-gen Dzire in the Philippines which made its India debut in November last year. The Phillippines-spec Dzire gets the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z-series petrol engine as its Indian counterpart but there are two significant differences. Firstly, in the Philippines this engine is paired with a 12V mild hybrid system. Secondly, transmission duties are carried by a CVT automatic.
The modest 12V mild hybrid system features a small 0.072 kWh battery that powers a 2.19 kW (2.93 bhp) electric motor. This motor delivers torque assist and enhances fuel efficiency, while also enabling energy recuperation. As a result, there’s no change in engine output but better drivability and fuel efficiency with the auto start/stop functionality.
Speaking of output, the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated mill delivers 81 bhp and 111.7 Nm of peak torque. That said, Suzuki hasn’t revealed the fuel efficiency figures of the Philippines-spec Dzire yet. For reference, the India-spec Dzire fuel efficiency figures of 24.79 kmpl with Petrol manual, 33.73 km/kg with CNG manual and 25.71 kmpl with Petrol AMT gearbox options.
And from what it looks, the Dzire launched in Philippines could very well have been made in India. Visually, it is identical to the Dzire sold in India both exterior and interior. Highlights include the huge blacked-out grille outside and the dual-tone interior with Nutmeg Brown and Bluish Black inside the cabin.
Even the list of features is almost identical with conveniences such as a 9-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, cruise control, remote boot opening, automatic climate control, follow-me home lamps, LED headlights and reverse parking camera. Safety features include six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and Hill Hold Control.
