- An acronym for Jabalpur Ordnance and Gun Assembly, Jonga was a trusted workhorse of the armed forces. Vehicle Factory Jabalpur, which owns the intellectual property rights, is now re-launching it.
- The report states that Vehicle Factory Jabalpur (VFJ) is planning to take the Jonga project at a “fast pace”. The project is at an advanced stage and expected to be completed by end-2023.
- The vehicle is expected to be similar to the original Jonga and developed using a completely indigenous design. However, it will be equipped with several modern-day features.
- The original Jonga came with a six-cylinder motor that produced 145 BHP and 330 Nm torque. It was coupled to a four-wheel drive transfer case and offered 222 mm ground clearance.
- The upcoming model will be available to both, civilians as well as armed-forces. It’ll have a 150 BHP engine, longer and wider dimensions, and 39-degree gradient maneuvering capability.
