Hi,
My close friend ,was searching for a good solid car in second hand market for few months ,
In between we fixed palio and punto in mind .
Our budget was 3l
Punto did not fit into our budget as it exceeded ,but we had little cars in higher mileage .

In a casual evening my friend called me and said a palio 1.3 mjt 2009 model with 65k odo for 2.14 lacks was in olx , as we where in cbe , it was a chennai car.

He took a journey to chennai and visited the place having car, it was stored aside for long time .
So paint was faded .

He negotiated the price ,as they said a small engine work has been done by them, claimed 100% via fiat service.

He trusted it and bought the car finally for 1.7lacks

Next day morning i was waiting for his car, as he arrived i was happy to see him again in a white car, he has all white cars.

We clearly found engine was not in 100% full condition, also paint and interior was full dusty and dull .
Took it to 3m car care

Took full exterior and interior package of total 9k

Then car was 100% shiney and interior was all new .
Things done in 3m
Paint sealent protection
Interior germ clean plus , ac vent and engine bay cleaning .
They where good in these things.
100% satisfaction for what we paid.

Next day we took to Fiat service center to check engine conditions, they took history and found there where no service records after 35k odo.

Then they manually checked engine condition over a ramp, and when they pressed full throttle, full white smoke from exhaust with blue tint, denoting oil vapor.

They said engine is in half condition and will run only few miles more, and will drink oil .

We very well know fiat service and spares cost hell high, we took it out and came back.

We both desided to fully recondition the car what ever price ut costs, but as engineering students, we tried to cut price as well as we could.

Next day we took to local garage which we well know, he test drove and said

Rear wheel bearing have to be changed
Engine have to be reconditioned
Front ball joint have to be replaced
Ac heat exchanger have to be serviced
Coolent change
Oil change
Oil filter
Fuel filter
Injectors cleaning
Transmission oil change

Also turbo was bleeding hell a lot of oil, which could have been main reason of white smoke, also fins had shake, so turbo work has to be done.

We went home and started collecting info about good oils and fluid brands in net,

Also we went all leading auto spare shops to know price lists, in between mechanic said engine also would be in half condition,so new engine block with pistons crank and connecting rods.

Also we well know all mjt engine parts are same , so we headed and came to know

All piston's crank and block with connecting rods cost
70k from fiat
65k form suzuki
49k from tata

Turbo 22k to 15k .

So we planned , to recondition the engine as well.

First we bought engine oil and other fluids, pics added below.

Filters and other stuffs.

Will catch you in next update.

All the best for your mod job!Engine job is a must to make this fiat reliable.
Only issue is you have paid at least 20K more on that car. Fiat don't command that much price in second hand market. [cheers]

Bhvm ,yes we can recondition the turbo, there is a turbo overhauling workshop in ukkadam cbe, they do even big generator turbos and stuff like that.
If they quote more than 8 or 7 k we ill buy new turbo for 12k even second quality turbo is available for 7k in market (new).

Ya we came to know at this engine conditions car will sell even 40k less .

stingray91 can you share the price of engine oil?
Engine oil we used is 5l can of mobil 1 delvac recommended for all multijet engines.
It costed Rs.1485 INR
actual cost in lable is 1600INR.

Today we started the work, planned to change all fluids after engine work.

Took car in wrench inspected the turbo, the fins where shaking and oil was there totally, turbo recirculating system is having heavey leak, also gaskets are worn, leaving engine oil vaporisation via turbo -> intercooler -> engine -> turbo -> exhaust
So this may ve main reason for while cloud formation :D behind car.
So turbo work as to be done.

But before the air box is totally broken and direct air is sucked by turbo so we sourced fiat punto airbox which costed 2600INR. where vista box cost only 1600INR with air filter.
So we bought indigo vista/manza airbox. Which was surprisingly well built , we had to remove the AIR MASS sensor and bolt back to this box.

Secondly radiator tank was full dirty and reddish. Ie. Red soil accumulated also rust from radiator accumulated.

Removed the radiator and left to radiator repair shop, where they clean it using specific solvent and remove all clogs in it.

While removal we where shocked to see half of the radiator was clogged by dirt, and only half was circulating. Lol.
But we did not face any heating issues in 500km non stop run from chennai to cbe. Hats off fiat!

Update you soon.

Engine from an accident vehicle or theft? It is good that you sourced a used engine, this could reduce the expense, work and time,
