Couldn't believe myself, in less than 30 minutes finalized the deal and got another RX. But this time it's RXG.
Background:
Here is my ownership review of my current and previous RXs
RX135
RX100
Last evening on the way back to home stopped at my mechanic garage to leave to bike for water wash. Noticed a rusted piece of metal standing beside and yes, that is RX. Mechanic said it is up for sale.
Bells rang inside my head, why not to get her and make a bit sporty? (idea is to restore the current RX to complete stock look & spec and mod this bike a little sporty with custom paint job)
Initial observation & Inspection:
Yamaha RXG
Model: 1997-Jul (RC expired more than a year ago)
No. of owners: 3
Insurance: No
- It is black with same sticker theme of my current bike (RX135 sticker & monogram)
- Missing parts: head lamps, tail lamps, indicators, speedometer & cable, rear number plate, front brake lever & cable, battery, 2T oil tank
- Rusted front and rear mud guards, seat bottom area
- After market handle bar
- Bald front tyre and 50% life left in rear tyre
- Meshed up wiring harness
- No oil leak from engine/GB
- No rust in engine head
TD Experience
- Tried starting and in 3rd kick the engine got life and started roaring
- Closed the tail pipe and throttled, to my surprise there is no abnormal noise from the engine
- Clutch is bit hard
- Gear engages smooth
- Went for a short TD, pick-up is not upto the mark (compared with my current RX) but not that worse
- Rear brake is 'OK'
- There is no wobbling / pull
- Exhaust note is a bit louder
Buying Experience
Couldn't meet the owner in person, had a chat over phone. He was expecting 12k, I started my negotiation from 6k and finally paid 9k.
Right now the bike is at mechanic garage. Will post the snaps ASAP (didn't take any snaps yesterday)
Restoration / Modification suggestions
What ever part is missing, I can transfer from my current bike (and fix new parts in current bike) and make her to good running running condition. But I don't want her to be in stock looks. But again I cannot spend much on this bike as I have to restore the current RX to complete stock condition.
Considerations:
Option 1:
- Custom paint job (bright red / blue / pearl White)
- 16" rear tyres
- Bigger headlamp
Option 2:
- RD350 paint theme
- Dual silencer
- Fatty front and rear tyres
I'm on a strict budget and couldn't afford an RD, so thought of dressing up a cat look like tiger.
Option 3:
- Convert to RXZ (long time desire)
- Paint it in blue theme
- Front disc brakes and alloys (used one from gladiator)
Need all your inputs and suggestions in modification.
