Aftermarket Cruise Control System. Possible?

Hi TAIans,

Is it possible to mod a car with after market cruise control system. Is it available at all in India?

I personally feel it will be amazing for highway long drives if available. Please throw some light on this topic.

after importing you have to find a specialist to install it. not a feasible option considering how much you take out the car on highways.

even if you do take it on highways you'd use it for a maximum of say 30-45 seconds , indian highways.

i went on a trip so what all i wrote above was my experience. after a while i got irritated to set it up every minute.

I do not know about other cars, but I have successfully installed Cruise Control on my 2010 FIAT Linea T-Jet. I strongly disagree with people who say CC is unfit for use in Indian Highways. I am able to use the CC for extended periods, as long as it is set to a sane speed and I do not hit the brake, the moment I see any obstacle at the horizon.

Let me also mention this - I am no specialist, just another IT guy with a passion for DIY. And the cost was very small. Less than a tankful of petrol. None of the required components were imported, except for the CC stalk itself.

First off, welcome to The Automotive India, Raajan. I must congratulate you for two things: The Linea T-Jet and successful installation of cruise control. I’d appreciate if you could share more information about it through a separate thread in DIY Section. I was driving an xuv and speed was set to 90kmph. And I just shared my experience on one particular busy highway. I couldn't even use it for a minute.

But then again drove on yamuna express highway but without cc and on that highway you can use it for longer periods.

I completely disagree. You do know that as soon as you apply brake it disengages. Cc is to reduce fatigue , get better fuel efficiency on long trips which is normally on highways and not in cities.

I know that it can be installed on a Polo quite easily if you import the kit nowadays with all controls being electronic throttle sensor speed sensor etc and all info being present at the ecu it is simpler to do compared to earlier when it had to be done mechanically. If your car has cc as an option in other countries I assume an aftermarket kit would be available.
