Fixed MGA Fog Lamps from ASC at the time of delivery of my new Alto K10 VXI and I should say I made a mistake doing so. Reasons,

1. ASC irregularly cut the plastic cladding provided on the Fog lamp provision and it looks ugly.

2. The light throw is uneven and of no use for driving as it is focusing the sky [frustration]

3. Poor quality - both the fog lamp lenses cracked within a weeks time. ASC says it could be because of me hitting any object on my bumper leading pressure on the fog lamps to break the lenses. But believe me I haven't hit anything.

I am keeping it just for aesthetic purpose. My suggestion, you make yourself available and personally monitor the fitting when you are intended to go for fog lamps.

Re: Alto K10/Celerio MGA Fog Lamps

Talk of "customer friendly" Maruti Service Stations !!!

If the Fog Lamp lens/glass is not projecting out (of the bumper), you can always prove that you are NOT the reason for the crack. Just for the fun of it, raise the level up to the Manager of A$$ or above. Write it to Maruti Regional Office and to the National Center.

Whether they change yours or not, it will make them bit more careful with other Maruti Customers. Make a small ruckus just for the heck of it, but sound genuinely hurt. It is worth the effort.

Re: Alto K10/Celerio MGA Fog Lamps

The fog lamp cracking thing is a common problem with MGA
I remember reading about a Ritz with cracked foglamps soon after install
apparently it was because MGA foglamps heat up too much and rain water splashing on it created a reaction
No clue how true this explaination is

I personally didnt face this with my cars including my Ritz even though I use fogs every night(Mumbai street lights are poor and headlights often dont show potholes properly)

Re: Alto K10/Celerio MGA Fog Lamps

this is quite strange. I've never heard sudden fog lamp cracking stories till now. I use fog lamps on all my cars (oem fogs) and never had them crack randomly. only 3 points came in my mind.

1. improper fixing by mga, causing stress on lenses & hence crack.

2. people experiencing crack are using high wattage bulbs or duplicate bulbs that generate more heat.

3. mischievous Kids targeting lamps in parking etc.

of course, it could be a bad batch or manufacturing defect. one thing I would like to clarify that my cars are top end spec, with factory installed fogs. so there May be difference In workmanship or finesse for installs later from mga.

I dont think its different than ZXI/ZDI/VXI/VDI fogs
could be fitting problem, bad batches or design flaw

IMO Maruti fogs are the same from the Alto to the Ciaz with same reflector design and 3" diameter. Though recently they have changed the reflector design which I can guess will be incorporated throughout the range.
Haven't heard of any cracking.
As stated, could be fitting problem or manufacturing defect.

I too use OEM fog lamps in my Ritz for past 3 years but i never heard of cracking. I think may be improper installation done by ASS so you can clain this to write a mail to Maruti directly they can surely help out these type incidence.

Send the pic and purchase bill copy in the mail and also with clear bumper footage without damage so that it would help them to resolve soon.

It seems that the particular ASS is the culprit in this case. I too have got Fog lamp fixed on my Alto K10 from the Maruti dealer itself and no problem at all and looks like it is factory fitted stuff.

Send a written complaint(email) to Maruti Udyog and see what response you are getting from them...
